Has anyone ever stayed at the Sheraton Philadelphia City Center?

Nothing special, and IIRC the club lounge is closed on the weekends.

I wish. It's on the list...

Looks like AF has plenty of flights into either Rabat or Casablanca. From there, internal flights on Royal Air Maroc look pretty cheap ($50 roundtrip for Casablanca-Fes).

Just discovered that, despite the Elite Desk rep telling me otherwise, we were booked into coach for MEX-GRU for my X-Mas redemptions. There isn't any J availability on MEX-GRU (or any other -GRU SkyTeam route) for those dates.

I'm now thinking Morocco. Anyone have any experience with Morocco? Casablanca, Marrakech, Rabat, or Fes?

The only experience I have with Morocco is via the Epcot pavilion. Tasty food and friendly people - I like to think any country that Disney can recruit from and come up with enough people to meet their standards to operate a pavilion is likely a good spot to visit eventually in my lifetime.

If you've been to the Epcot version, the restaurant in the rear (Marrekesh) is based in design on the lobby of the hotel that Disney's people stayed at while visiting the country.

Yes, I've been to all of those cities. What would you like to know? Marrakech is the most American of the four. My memory is a little foggy though as I visited Morocco when I was 14.

Americanized definitely isn't what I would be looking for. I was hoping to find a city with a well-preserved (and not dangerous) Historic District (and Souk), as well as plenty of nearby interesting attractions (fortresses, Atlas Mountains, Ocean, etc.). I might consider splitting the week between two Moroccan cities. I just don't want to end up in the Moroccan version of Detroit (if there is such a thing). Wikipedia gives the impression that Casablanca is just a huge industrial port city, without giving much info on touristy stuff. That threw up red flags.

Fez and Rabat would be the ones most rich in culture and of historical importance. In all of Morocco I did not feel too in danger but we were with Globus tour company. Just don't linger around too late at night and you should be fine. In one of the cities (the name escapes me, it might have been Marrakech) we went to a dinner and then show. It was fantastic. The audience could participate and before the show you could ride camals around the field. It was well worth it and I definitely remember it. I'll try to do a search and see if I can find it.

I found it. It was the Fantasia show in Marrakech. Here is the link.

Thanks for the tips! It looks like there are a number of very nice Sofitel properties to choose from in Morocco. ^

so that shouldn't be hard for them to do at all.

I have not had that on my trips, but I have only been in BF.

This is if you say on INTL Y, an ideal domestic first meal!

speaking of foods I bought a nice brisket today got it marinading in some dr pepper now, $0.99lb and I got a nice small 8 lber. that was a perfect blend of fat and meat.

Anyone else a bit surprised that BA is starting the LHR-LAS route? I know there is a lot of convention business, but this is one of the lowest yielding destinations on the planet.....

OPFlyer May 18, 2009 4:07 pm

Also, I know I said Marrakech is the most American, but I meant Casablanca. They seem to love Pizza Hut down there. Each of those cities had Pizza Hut so you can guess where I had most of my meals. Be sure to visit the medinas. A lot of the local goods and antique replicas can be baught there as well as pictures with the locals. be careful though in one of the cities they had cobras and monkeys that they tried to get you to take a photo with.

That seems like an obnoxiously long flight. How many hours is that?

Yum! Brands certainly has an amazing footprint. Between the Pizza Huts you see everywhere and the fact that KFC is hugely popular in China, they seem to be covering the world.

IIRC it is around 10 or so.
