Yeah, I thought my Plat EUA percentage was good . . . .

ConciergeMike Jun 11, 2008 1:26 pm

My list:

Eastern
Kiwi
Midway
America West
World Airways (the scheduled version)
CO Lite

I flew World JFK-ORD-LAX and return when I was about 3, or so my mother told me. She cites that as the trip where I lost a Kermit the Frog doll in a cab, VERY much to her chagrin.

Fast forward about 20 years, and I get on a World DC-10 to begin my trip to Saudi Arabia when I deployed there in 2002.

Just thought of another for my list: Ozark.

didnt ValuJet morph into Air Tran?

ConciergeMike Jun 11, 2008 1:40 pm

Indeed they did, post-crash.

Yes, they pulled a name change to get rid of the bad safety image.

Does anyone know if there are any FT'er's that have hit the 4mm mark? I read through a few threads but didnt see anyone.

And, it seems to have worked.

Well technically AirTran was a different airline, which, IIRC, was much smaller. ValuJet merged with AirTran after the crash and the AirTran name was retained. I believe ValuJet was actually the larger of the two and acquired AirTran, but I could be wrong on that.

I would be very surprised if anyone has hit the 4 million mile mark with CO.

Flights to/from MSP and DTW on CO have also been good to me this year.

This is correct. They also switched over to the AirTran operating certificate to clear the safety issues from their history (in addition to the pumblic image issues). My only AirTran flights were SYR-MCO-SYR in winter 98/99 and I swore never again.

I think it will be years before we see a 4MM'er.

ValuJet data recorder

a few years ago we had the chief NTSB investigator speak at my Lions Club; among many neat things he brought flight data recorder -one of the the so-called "black" boxes that are actually day-glo orange - from that crash. It was spooky to hold the thing.

It is very interesting to learn how they piece together the data and make the CGI recreations of TCG (terminal collision with ground) incidents. While many people handle the data recorder, only a very few investigators are allowed to actually listen to the cockpit voice recordings and make the transcripts.
