My vote is for CDG or open jawing between LHR and CDG. Schedule permitting, it might be a fun time to get a line to/from LCY.

:)

Hotel suggestion in a great location with a ton of fun cafes.

I don't really feel like doing the multi-city thing this time for a two-night trip - I just want to fly in and fly out a couple of days later.

Understood. I still think Paris is awesome this time of year and the thought of sipping wine at a corner bistro sounds fun right now.

The last time I went to Europe, I either flew or took a train to another city every day and it was quite exhausting.

I completely agree with the condensed version above; not even getting out of the BNA burbs for a couple weeks (then driving to ATL).

Wives get the husband's upgrades, and doubtless mothers do too. The GA telling me not to give the seat to my elderly mother would cheese me pretty fiercely as well.

Baglady Jr used to get a fair amount of my upgrades before she hit gold. And even so, I'm last man in F in our little party.

Please, do you all honestly think that anything that happens in the box could be called "punishment" as I know it?

I feel for this GA. He was doing his job correctly, although he should have been much more polite in his refusal. Every day and on every flight GAs are asked to upgrade someone for some reason other than status. It gets old really quick. You also get "well I was upgraded on the last flight so you can do it on this one" from select "snotty" customers that refuse to understand that you will not give away the seat "just because it's empty".

This area is a real Catch-22. As I explained it to one dissatisfied customer, I don't looking for people in the airport to fly for free when we have open Y seats.

I appreciate that it is a tough situation for GAs and I am glad that rules are upheld, but like you said in the thread about the Plat not getting on the flight, it's all discretionary. I am not saying this guy should have been upgraded but I think that the GA has the choice.

Having people constantly asking for upgrades does get old but GAs are the face of CO, along with flight crews so chewing out a pax over upgrades is not right. I won't report the GA because it could have just been an off day.

Other than that the flight and crew were great.

Yeah, I am over doing that as well. Wherever you pick, I am jealous!
