I batted this idea around myself and almost replied the question you posed a couple months ago about "if you could start an airline, how would you position it" with the Caribbean feeder idea.

Where I got stuck is whether there is high enough business demand.

It seems that inter-lining with every carrier is the only way you can get the model to work. Build-up a hub in SJU or the DR for both geographic centrality and a decent O/D market and you might have a shot. AMR was always the bully in SJU though.

BWIA failed though. So, not sure how sustainable it is. Q400's might be the way to go and just concede the cargo business to existing carriers.

I thought that by paying off sbm12 in Yen before his NRT trip , he would somehow lose the photo.

There's your problem right there. He's only susceptible to bribery with alcohol, not money. @:-)

Another interesting thought is NWA retaining the A319s in NBA charter configuration and using them for scheduled service after the season.

Maybe I will have to start going to Keeley's more often to help him get to the 100 beer club faster.

Without feed I do not think you can get it to work as not many pax are willing to tag on tickets as they would rather have a straightforward baggage-less connection. Think of how nicely it works using the Cape Air connections in SJU.

As for cargo, I like Aloha's former model - flying at night using dedicated and pax aircraft. It was the only profitable part of their business, though it would obviously only work with properly equipped airports.

So true. I was thinking of doing the Paris Air Show in June since there are good fares across the pond. When I told Mrs Radonc1, she was happy to get a quick trip to Paris, but when I started talking airfares, the first words out of her mouth were "Aren't we flying up front?".

Maybe that 25% discount is good for BF fares as well :p.

When I took my SO on our first trip across the pond together (IAH-SNN), I of course book reward BF. He is NOTORIOUSLY cheap, and I got an earful for about a week about "wasting" all those miles when we could have just as easily sat in the back. As a side trip (even longer story), we decided to take one weekend and fly DUB-PRG on OK. After I told him OK was Skyteam and we may get some benefits, though we were booked in Y, he literally ran to the check-in agent and began working the poor girl with "how do we get the upgrade!!!!". He's totally spoiled now.

Yup, that's the linchpin in the model.

Set-up as the contract carrier of choice for the tourist industry (Cruise lines for repositioning crews, SuperClubs, RIO, etc.) and land government contracts and you might have something.

So what's the name of the hypothetical airline?

I got the marketing slogan down: "Every seat is an isle seat."

Hmmm. You can tell I am in an oddly fun mood. I just remembered that my best friend's my buddy is an A319/320 pilot for WindJet - I wonder if I should coordinate some trip later this year and set up some sort of tour.

An American Eagle jet caught fire at HOU this morning. No injuries but man, I bet that was scary.
