I am very proud of our country today. Partisan politics aside, I certainly never thought I would see this day come upon us as I studied political science and international affairs in college. More importantly, I hope the aura of inclusion and participation in the process stays upon us as it is a great thing for everyone, regardless of background.

Really? I always thought I would see this day in my lifetime, although it is a bit earlier than I would have guessed up through a year ago.

I realize that the past few days seem like a bit too much media, but when I think about it, this is history that kids are going to learn about in school decades from now, so it helps put things in perspective to me.

This ICE train is absolutely packed, even in F.

I just got back from DC. One of 18 people on the 930am DL shuttle.

When I originally booked this trip I figured I'd go to DC, do my work thing, and get out of dodge. I'm not one for lines, or crowds, or masses of humanity yearning to take a coffee induced pee break in a port-o-john. Especially in 30 degree weather.

But being in DC last night was so exciting. Having lived there for 16 years I can confidently say that this wasn't the DC I know. It was different. It was exciting. It was historic.

I'm now really regretting coming back up this a.m. The meeting I'm going into in 20 minutes isn't that important. At all. In the context of history, when my children ask where I was when Obama was sworn in, I'll say I was sitting in a windowless meeting room, looking at a powerpoint presentation, wishing I wasn't an idiot.

I'm hoping my kids don't ask me where I was. I'm hoping that by then, a black man as President isn't as "groundbreaking" as it is now.

I'll gladly tell mine that I was sitting in a nice warm house watching the events on TV. :)

Aretha Franklin just embarassed herself in front of billions.

I have waged a battle against Hilton HHonors Customer Service to get points that are rightfully mine posted. And after many e-mails and arguing, victory is mine!

Somehow the HGI in Beaumont, TX managed to put me on a "no show" rate two weeks ago. As a result, no points posted, despite the fact that I slept three nights in that hotel, and charged incidentals to the room. When it didn't post, I contacted HHonors and then was told that I didn't really stay there, and that since I was a good customer, they felt sorry for me and would give me 500 points as a goodwill gesture. We went back and forth some more, and finally someone wised up to the fact that the hotel screwed up. After all, how could I have charged breakfast, one dinner from room service, and several drinks purchased in the pantry to my room if I wasn't staying there? And wouldn't a no show only be charged for the first night? So, finally, victory is mine, and the points are posted. And that 500 point goodwill gesture? It's still there too. :D

There are some serious inebriation photos in there.
