With any luck you can score a free AirTran ticket due to bumpage. At least you can get to AUA on their metal. :-:

Good to know, thanks.

Could take up to 30 days, however. A lot depends upon how fast Hilton gets back to Platinum Concierge to verify your status. You can thank photoshop for that delay.

There are worse things that flying AirTran. I've only done it a few times but it was never that bad. Lord knows DL has treated me far, far worse on more occasions.

Flying Spirit would be chief among these.

Fair enough.

I'd be willing to pony up my hilton.com login if required. Feel free to help yourself to the Zimbabwe HHonors points that are left.

Monday at Washington Union Station there was a lady boarding my train who had arrived earlier on Amtrak from Florida. She was a displaced Spirit passenger and kept complaining about how expensive the walk-up fare was on Amtrak, but that she had to get home, and it was cheaper than any of the airlines. Then she said "I can't believe the other airlines wouldn't take my ticket."

Come on, you know you want to find an older exterior corridor Hampton Inn in Middle-of-Nowhere Mississippi or Alabama to burn those points at for a nice romantic weekend. You can even get a free hot breakfast with reconstituted eggs and warmed up frozen biscuits for no extra charge.

That's what you get for flying them. Unfortunately, not all airlines play the interline game...but just as sad is that most people think they all do. Same kind of  as when I worked in AC - there were people who were ignorant of the fact that some of the casinos were others' competitors. There is so much multiple-brand ownership that the 11 casinos are really only four competing owners, but that's beside the point. Idiots would walk up to me and say "I can't get a comp night here; will my play here get me a comp night there?"

Whom to root for, MEX or FRA? Hmmm... I'm leaning towards MEX. Almost halftime.

Well, part of the entire problem with the airline industry for more than 20 years now (maybe even longer) is that people say they want an airline to act like a full-service carrier (in some cases, the full-service carriers of the pre-deregulation days), but they only want to pay rock-bottom discount prices. It's no different than someone bemoaning the fact that the local merchants in their small town are dying, but they will only shop at Wal-Mart. Fly the Spirits of the world if you want, but do so realizing you're getting only what you're paying for, and if things get screwed up at the airline, you'll be screwed too.

There's a whole lot of that going around nowadays.

Would you like that with greasy sausage or gravy from a dry powdered mix?

A client once asked me why I kept going to the local Caribou Coffee for breakfast when I was staying at a Hampton with free breakfast. I have no real gripes about Hampton Inn, and some of them have quite nice rooms. They're also often the best place in town for smaller markets. But like most hotels that offer free breakfast to all guests, the quality of the food does leave something to be desired.

Needs to be a tie for RSA to have a chance of advancing ;)
