Shawshank is actually a Stephen King "short" story

I did know that, and, given what little I did know of his popular works, was surprised to learn it. Was there more of a (what? "horror"?) framing to the original?

My dinner is a little less healthy - will have a nice spinach salad but the entree is Trader Joe's Orange Chicken.

It's very slow for some reason. Not sure if that's your issue though.

Actually, no. The movie is very faithful to the novella - nothing really significant added or subtracted. Red actually is Irish in the book, as opposed to Morgan Freeman making a joke about it.

IIRC, the collection of stories is called "Different Seasons" - each story has some kind of vague link to a season. Shawshank was Spring (as in Hope Springs Eternal), Apt Pupil was Summer, Stand by Me was Fall.

My remaining 2009 travel is so far confined to the Western Hemisphere. I don't recall being in close contact with fozz lately, though.

Then I misunderstood the implication of your original list; I took it to be adaptations that were basically different than the books on which the screen plays were based.

You were just listing good/great works that were also good/great movies, then?
