I do get $150 in extra compensation for sitting in the office all day tomorrow - officially not on contract but I'm doing advising (and can get writing done). Not a bad deal.

I don't think he's trolling. I think that the diehards over there refuse any assertion that UA is not at the top of the pile. The line that he keeps repeating is true in the context of that survey, and they are just not getting it that someone out there can think that UA sucks. It's unfathomable to them.

So much for an attempt at intelligent discourse.

$5 off Jiffy Lube coupon secured; now off to hunt for lunch, to the oil change joint, and to come up with something for us to do tonight. I was asked to plan a date night. I'm kind of out of practice at this.

I don't use BP purely on advice from the mechanics at my VW dealer. Sunoco or Shell are the suggested brands.

All have made the first cut. I am vaguely considering the HH, too, but leaning away from it based on it being much closer to $250/night than $160/night like the others.

I also have the 2000 Accor points that can be redeemed at the Ibis or Mercure.

Bank Hotel, all the way. I used to live around the corner from it. It's built on top of Logie Baird's Pub (named after the Scottish co-inventor of TV), which is a nice place for a morning pint, with decent pub grub. It is also right around the corner from The Cowgate, and about as central as you can be in Old Town. You will be nearly equidistant from the main train station, airport express bus stop, castle, new town, arthur's seat, and calton hill.

I can easily say I've seen that movie more often than any other film.

I was leaning that direction anyways, mostly based on location. Glad to hear that it is reasonable. The quirkiness of the property is also a vote in its favor, despite some complaints about noise and such in some of the reviews I've read.

The one thing I've learned about surveys is that they're never to be trusted.

I'd agree that UA's not at the top of the pile, but I'd also say that being the #1 domestic carrier in any kind of perception survey isn't worth a whole lot. Kind of like being the skinniest kid at fat camp - you're still fat. Perception of quality != actual quality. Joe Suburbanite thinks that Starbucks has good coffee, yet if you take away the branding and serve it next to McDonald's coffee in a plain styrofoam cup, Joe picks McD's, 60/40. Joe actually picks Maxwell House over SBUX, even.

That, and any survey that doesn't have US at the bottom is wrong by definition.
