You know, if WDC ever gets their head out of their collective rears in regards to transit visa requirements, the AKL flight times open up great connection opportunities via IAH. As, I am sure, would many other destinations.

I was in the class of 2000 - it's a small place, so within 5 years on either end I should at least recognize the name (unless she was a big music/theatre person, in which case, the legends stretch back even earlier :)).

I can't imagine picking a destination based on hair-days, but ironically, I recently looked back at some photos from the BTR days and...well, it definitely looks better in those than it seems to be now. Probably NOT what most people would expect. :p

But what are the chances of that ever happening?

Apparently NZ was considering putting their 787s on the routes for the connection options as well, so it isn't all that ridiculous a thought. Maybe it isn't such a thin route after all, based on connections.

Sucker.

I just finished a call with UA international reservations. ETA approved.

UA: Oh, Mr. sbm12, I see that you're *G but I still have to charge you for the ETA.

Me: Really? It was free last time.

UA: One second, let me check something. < clickity clack clickity clack clickity clack clickity clack> Oh, forget it; I'm just going to issue it. What is your passport number?

Me: :D :D :D

Can the 787 even make ORD-AKL?
also IAH-AKL is almost the same as LAX-SYD, for me it will probably still be better to go NYC-LAX-SYD instead of EWR-IAH-AKL-SYD when flying in the Petpass Crate.

Probably not the -8s, especially with the ETOPS diversion.

ORD-AKL is 8184 mi according to the GCM. According to Teh Wikipedia, Boeing is publishing a range of 7650-8200 nm (8803-9436) for the 787-8. Is Possible.

I am really regretting the decision not to buy that UA IAD-SYD ticket. Very seriously regretting it.

If it's ETOPS 180, the additional western diversion from ORD would be minimal, since you're starting from further north than IAH.

I think the days of focusing primarily on O/D figures are slowly going away. The AKL flight, even with the current transit restrictions, opens up some great connection opportunities.

Why would you waste your time calling them?

True, though either way it is bad.

Am I the only person having trouble getting the new gcmap.com to draw ETOPS in on the maps?
