The only flaw I see is the assumption that one would get $700 "back" from the government. For a lot of people, it's a deduction but will not be near $700 (at least in my experience).

I donated close to $3k worth of goods, services, and $$$ and didn't see any back from the government and the credit was minimal.

Just let the headrest police walk away and inch it up again. What I find the most annoying is the inconsistency in how they enforce it. An FA will slam it down on your shoulders even if it is only raised an inch up and same FA will leave alone another headrest that is clearly raised .

hmmmm. based on our tax bracket we normally get back about 30% of retail value of all donations. but I can see your point, and for most YMMV.

Finally got home and now in office hours. Best part of the day was finally seeing this happen.

Just got my LAX planespotting photos from yesterday online. Four 747s: SQ, KL (twice - they had a go-around), China Southern and Southern Air Cargo. I didn't wait around for the LH flug.

Very nice. Did you get a replacement camera body?

Just saved $65 with an SPG50 Cert. for this weekend's Sheraton Portsmouth stay. Saved another $60 by switching the first night to a Summerfield Suites near Boston. ^

I've got a couple of those certs, wasn't sure if they are really a good value or not.... is it off rack rate? I'm always able to find way better deals than half off the standard rack rate....

For the first time since July 1992, I no longer own a car. We took it to CarMax this afternoon, and 30 minutes later walked out with a check and hopped into a rental we picked up this morning and headed home.

Need to fill in the missing concept of "hopped into a rental we picked up this morning with many bonus miles". Congrats on a no-hassle car sale.

Nice to hear someone was actually able to use an SPG50. :) I have one that expires in June, but I haven't been able to find a single property/situation where using it makes sense.

This is because you dont pay state income tax or own a home (ie. pay RE taxes or mortgage interest). Your standard deduction is probably greater than itemized.

SPG 50 is half off rack rates. Sheraton Portsmouth wanted $210/night at best available prepaid rate for this weekend. $145/night with SPG 50.

The SPG50s are also quite good for getting a guaranteed suite at a discount (sometimes for what a standard room goes for on prepaid rates). I've found that Sheraton Old San Juan and Westin Los Cabos both have excellent deals on Suites when an SPG 50 is used.

That only works on days when you don't have to go into the office.
