Congrats.

We found an outstanding breakfast place in downtown Portsmouth. Kind of a diner place with great things like crab omelets. Can't remember the name but it's hard to miss. It's on the main street, there's a line out the door, and the place is covered inside with all sorts of tackiness. Portsmouth is a nice town to walk around, and the Sheraton is quite convenient for that. It's also worth the short trip across the drawbridge to Kittery for a lobster roll on someone's back deck over the water by their lobster shed on the island. Cross the bridge, hang a right or left down the first street, and you'll see a few houses that have such businesses. Hard to beat a fresh lobster roll (made from a lobster the shack's owner caught) and beer, while sitting on the water watching the boats, served by a local in their backyard, all for about $12.

Was it The Friendly Toast?

This is because you dont pay state income tax or own a home (ie. pay RE taxes or mortgage interest). Your standard deduction is probably greater than itemized.

The home part is relevant but some of us do get pretty decent sales tax deductions in lieu of state income tax deductions.

Now, if I didn't have status, it would suck.

I do not have UA status but it does not matter what you pay for the ticket. The service almost always sucks and the aircraft usually are poorly maintained and ratty looking inside.

And to think that this time next year all of the tickets around here might be on UA stock and all of the flight numbers might be UA.

Some of us live in Florida. :)

No bonus miles. My employer's contract code with National doesn't allow us to earn them. But the free days I earn are far more valuable in most cases than miles (unless you're getting a big bonus). I'll rent enough cars this month to earn at least two or three free days, and my weekend reservations for the next few weekends in Atlanta are averaging around $20-25/day + taxes. Not too bad. Free days will be used on our vacation, and for the one-way Atlanta-DC rental coming up in a few weeks when we move.

The making of WN's new "Florida One"

A hideous paint job, IMO, but a pretty cool video.

The video is flawed, actually. They show a 738 for assembly and a 73G for painting and delivery.

I will say that they've been slowly getting better. The international planes are showing some improvement, especially the ones with the new seats.

The domestic ones still have a bit to go, but the ones they've retrofitted with the new seats are off to a good start.

You do know that they just replaced the F and C interiors on their entire 747 and 767 fleet, right?

Because the assembly video is stock Boeing footage.

I've not had bad service on a UA flight since early 2008, and I flew them a lot last year. The interiors of the aircraft have been getting much better. There are still some items that are difficult to deal with — the beige walls and such aren't easy to replace and can be spic and span but still look dingy because of the color and pattern printed on them — but all of the mainline UA aircraft I've flown in the last couple of years have been fine. Many have had new carpet, new lighting, and new seat covers installed. And they've been clean.

Getting rid of the 737s also decreased the overall nastiness of the UA mainline domestic flight by a factor of 10.

Naturally I will exempt the newly configured 744s from my gross generalization. :o

But IMO there is no way that anybody can change the long-held incurably rotten work habits of the in-flight crews. They belong to the union and you damn well cannot tell them what to do if it is not what they really want to do.

While that is true, I would rather the ratty 737s then the influx of CRJs i've had to endure.

I noticed that. I wouldn't expect them to have a camera set up to capture the entire assembly process of a specific WN plane.

Even if it isn't quite accurate, I thought it was still a pretty cool video.
