I moved into a new apartment a few weeks ago. Like any NYC home, it has its share of idiosyncrasies. This particular place has a lock on the bathroom door that does not like to unlock.

My first night at the apartment was over Memorial Day weekend. I go to the WC to take brush my teeth and put in my contacts. After 20 frantic minutes of twisting and turning the handle, by the grace of G-d, the door opens. Apparently, without a mobile phone, it doesn't take much time in a windowless bathroom for panic to set in.

Fast forward to last Thursday. My friend is patiently waiting for Time Warner to install my cable / internet. She was trapped for three hours. Eventually, she took the lid of the toilet tank to break a hole in the door through which she crawled. Here is the aftermath:

And tonight, in my daily battle against :rolleyes:, I was trapped for over half an hour. After fighting the good fight against this obstinate lock, I crawled out of the above picture headlong, slicing my left leg open in the process.

FML

This week is :rolleyes: and it's going to get more and more :rolleyes: until :rolleyes: peaks on Thursday morning.

Brace yourself for it.

I worked the summer conference program at my University one summer. We had a group of high school teachers from ETS who were grading AP exams. The debauchery I witnessed from this group was stunning. The amount of alcohol they left behind upon their departure could have supplied my entire dorm for a semester.


s'ok...though I do wonder sometimes what I'm doing wrong. I hear some people can earn 50K EQM just by breathing. :p

We made it! :D

We picked up the keys to our loft this evening and got to look around (we can't move in until tomorrow) - we're very happy with the place! Unfortunately, we found out the movers won't be here until Thursday, so it's going to be a few days before we can really feel like we're moving in. :(

did the door knob not work from the outside as well?

Would you like me to bring my toolbox over tomorrow evening and fix that (the lock, not the giant hole in the door) for you? I could also replace the door but I'd need a couple more tools and to measure it.
