Anyone have a suggestion for a place to get a decent price on a Mac? It doesn't need to necessarily be new or particularly powerful but I need one to do some work on. I'd rather not hackintonsh if I can avoid it as it seems like more trouble than it is worth.

Many times even formatted it is still exposing info. A true wipe can be done with random fills and all, but it takes a lot of time.

So even if it takes a day, it's not like you have to sit there and watch it.;)

If you are planning on doing anything in XCode you're going to want something with a little umph.

Seth, did you try the outlet section of the apple.com store?

Assuming that's what is used for iPhone app dev, yeah, I'm going to do that. I know that requires Intel and 10.5.x but otherwise I'm not so sure what I need.

To do anything for the new versions of the iPhone OS / iPad you will need an Intel and 10.6 and yes, you will need a computer with a decent amount of power. XCode is the development tool of OS X and iPhone OS so it is a bit of a hog.

seems like this may be the perfect time for a mac mini-intel

I am seeing them in various configs from $499-699 used, and of course new 599 to 799.

This is what I would recommend.

Also, you'll need $99 for the SDK / app account if you plan on distributing your application.

Thanks...that's what I was seeing, too. Pretty much now deciding if it is worth it to go used on eBay or just buy a new one.

Do I have to sign up for the $99 version of the SDK initially or can I wait to see if I actually have any success in making it work and then upgrade my developer account?

If anyone wants a maci mini g4 I may as well offer it up free to someone, I have no use for it, but it is a slim trim nice little package :)

It does NOT have OSX on it at this point, it ran like windows NT on a 386sx...

I finally entered all my 2010 flights into Flightmemory. All international lifetime flights are listed, as well, but I still have to go back and input some tail numbers. My domestic flights, however, are only complete back to 2008 or mid-2007. There are hundreds of flights left to enter from the last decade, and I do not know whether I have all the data handy. I have almost all my boarding passes for the last six years at my home, but I do not always have aircraft type or tail number notated (didn't start notating tail numbers until about two years ago, and sometimes, I still forget to note the number before leaving the aircraft).

Now, it's just a matter of inputting all the old data and tracking down old OnePass statements, if necessary. I think I need to hire a personal assistant to accomplish the task, or dedicate a huge amount of time to it on a weekend. I compromised a bit by making sure all my lines and dots are accounted for even though all flights have not yet been input. This year, I'm taking the advice of ALCO et al. and entering all flights immediate after taking them.

I've got a post in CC to trade a $250 AA voucher and this guy PM'd me that he'd give me 4K SPG points. Am I out of my gourd to pass on that extraordinary deal???

You only need to pay the $99 when you are ready to test on a physical iPhone and distribute.
