My habit has been to write the type and, now, tail number on the boarding pass for each flight, and save the boarding passes for later entry into FM. Failing to get the tail number usually is a result of a terminal/gate configuration that obscures the the tail number (IAD C and D concourses are prime examples) during boarding, but I am usually pretty good about getting the ship number, at least, in case I later forget the registration number from the airworthiness cert. I often snap a photo of the aircraft/tail number major international trips, as well.

If I can't find boarding passes for my older flights, I will just have to enter the flights without type or ship number.
