Morning, Box. Insomnia ruled my evening so forgive me if I pass out shortly.

Anyone on CO348 EWR-SFO tonight? This will be my first time ever doing a transcon in a middle seat in Y (albeit exit row - no aisles or windows available period). Oh well, at least dinner is still "complimentary"...

Morning Box.

Kicking back with some coffee and freshly baked muffins covered in sugar and cinnamon this morning. Exactly what we need on a cold/rainy day here.

Hope you all have a nice relaxing Sunday.

Unlimited data or voice? Also, some folks like having a local number where they are. When I was in India I just got a local SIM. It was much more convenient to have a local number there as those were the people I was calling/texting regularly. Ditto when in Turkey. No need to pay a ton extra for making international calls.

You must not be shopping where baglady shops. ;)

You'd be amazed how a complete disregard for intellectual property rights and international trademarks can lower the cost of a phone. Not that I'd condone that.

Dual sim quad band iPhone clone with two cameras anyone?

Well, i don't go searching for 'em either. I'm sure there is an imitation central, but i've never found those parts of town.

In my case I was generally looking for a specific phone thinking it would be cheaper there and in each case, it wasn't. I never just searched for a random phone.

That said, most of the places will give you some basic phone for free when you buy some amount of a prepaid. I've ended up with many spare phones that way.

I have had dish for years now, my parents switched to DirecTV with a bundle plan from the phone company and it has been :rolleyes::rolleyes: lies lies and more lies every since.

Actually, if you read the FCC rules, the local stations have to grant a waiver before the satellite provider can give you the national feeds. I went through all of that when trying to get the NY channels in SD.

In your case, it may just be that Dish carries your locals and DirecTV doesn't. That is a straight business decision and perhaps DirecTV doesn't think there is enough market for it to waste channel space on it.

AT&T has been good enough to unlock my phone so I can use prepaid SIM cards while abroad. I like the 3G IDD card from the "3" store.

In the UK, the cellphone warehouse has a prepaid house SIM which has the best rates to call back to the states. They use a VOIP network to route the calls so it's something like 2 pence a minute.

fozz, I meant to tell you what a directionally-challenged tool I ended up being. I said I didn't recognize where that Courtyard was in Wilmington. I was walking to my car the other day, and I typically park on the top floor of the duPont self-park. I came out of the stairwell and looked up, only to see staring right back at me a giant lit up Courtyard logo.

The plan that I have for my company iPhone is a $64.99 unlimited worldwide data (unlimited = 5GB, just like regular US plans) - it's basically $20/mo more than the "enterprise" data plans. I think it may only be available on corporate accounts, though.

No good workaround for real voice services. I've had my 3G jailbroken, so I was able to Skype while I was in CAN/HKG last fall. I got better 3G performance there than I do in Chicago. Typical AT&T.
