"Y" and "exceptionally pleasant" never should be used in the same sentence. :-: ;) "LH F" or "SQ Suites," however, might be better suited to such.

It'd be close, I'd wager. If you're late getting out of SNA you may have issues.

I know it is incongruous. However, I was comfily ensconced in my whYpod on YYC-YYZ, and pretty happy, to boot. Noise canceling headphones jacked into their AVOD system, and the ergonomically designed seats (great padding, too) with decent pitch made the experience actually pleasant.

I grew up on CLE-to-East-Coast roadtrips (grandparents lived in CT, then there were many years of school there, etc.) They were fine when we had the minivan...less so before and after said minivan. I don't know which was worse - having 3 kids across the back seat of a standard sedan for 8 hrs when the middle seat was a baby in a car seat, or when we were all full-sized (I think the most recent of these adventures happened around 2005).

The cake was taken by our trip to Halifax in (I think) 2002...a 1300-mile trip from CLE. About 23 hrs, if I remember correctly. We were in town slightly over 24 hrs before turning around to go home (my mother wanted to stay a little longer and do PEI and some of the surrounding country, but my dad didn't want to miss any more work than was necessary). Insane.

My parents were boring when it came to travel and vacations. Two weeks every summer, either Jersey Shore or OC MD. One car trip to Disney World. That's it. I'm almost ashamed to admit that I never even got on a plane until my first business trip in 1994.

Now I see the same thing happening with my sister and her family. They never go anywhere but down the Shore. My niece is four years old and she's never been anywhere except for Wildwood. I'm thinking of asking them if I can take her on a trip next summer, before she starts kindergarten. I think it would be fun to take her to Europe and it's certainly something her parents will never do. I'm not saying that kids necessarily need to travel overseas at a young age, and perhaps she will be too young to really appreciate it, but I think early exposure to different environments is important.

I grew up in CLE also, and we drove to BOS and ACK a couple of times with three kids in the backseat. It sucked, so I asked for being able to fly there as a birthday present for future trips.

If everything is on-time, ex-SNA, it is doable. If not, you are supremely hosed.

It shouldn't be too bad, i've made connections at SFO in 15.

In mid-70s we did CLE to ASE for in our Dodge Econoliner with "natural air conditioning." Twice. Dad had continuing education classes their for two straight summers.

The good thing? Experiencing the beauty of Snowmass & Aspen prior to commercialization.

The bad thing? After they visited, my Grandmother would not let Grandfather invest in a condo. At the base of one of the lifts.... Oh the value one can accrue in 30 yrs....

The interesting thing? My first concert ever was John Denver outdoors on one of the ski slopes. Also ended up being my first sip of beer, a cold Coors on tap.

Which is a big "if" depending on the UX carrier.

I agree with you -- early exposure to experiences help kids develop a more 'rounded' perspective on things. The 'value' may not be evident at the time, but you'd be surprised what kids can remember from a very young age! As I always say 'you only know what you know' -- ie. based on whatever your own experience is! Both of mine have been traveling on planes since a few wks old & they are both great travelers now!^ As for Europe -- I would wait until she's a bit older -- the attention span may not be there. However, if the child is very precocious & 'mature' for her age -- I'd say 'go for it'. Then again, my son went to the Amazon at 5 y.o. & was totally game for it!^

SFO-SNA seems to be an all-Skywest CR7 city pair. Mesa handles the US Express flights to PHX.

My folks took the family to the same place in Mexico every year for vacation (sometimes a few times a year), up until I was about 15. At that point, we did a few cruises in the Caribbean and Alaska. I didn't leave N. America for the first time until I was 21. I then quickly began making up for lost time.

Perhaps adelauro could warn his sister that one of the possible side effects of repeated, consistent family vacations may be an insatiable travel addiction. They can still save his niece, before it's too late. :D
