Without the building of more nuclear or at the very least, coal-fired power plants neither is viable in the short term.

I don't want to be driving around in the Hindenburg.

I think you know the answer to that. :p

I don't think we'll see a complete elimination of fossil fuel use for powering transportation in the next few decades. But it certainly can be reduced in many areas. Air travel is one area that may still rely on it, although technology will continue to make planes more efficient, just as we've seen over the last 40 years.

However, when it comes to automobiles, I think technology will allow us to greatly reduce the use of gasoline and diesel in new cars and trucks, and investment in things such as redevelopment of inner city areas and public transit would allow more people to live without the daily use of a personal car. Such infrastructure improvement would also generate jobs and provide more long-term economic stimulation, as opposed to the short-term tax rebate checks that we've tried for the last few years to get people to go out and buy more stuff at retail that they probably don't even need.

I'm fine with Nuclear. I recently bought stock in URRE. I stand to benefit if Uranium prices go back up. :D

Back on topic. I've been to CPH before... It's a neat city and my wife would enjoy it, so maybe it is the better choice.

If we can work religion into this, we'll have scored the Hat-Trick. :D

I would like to nominate this ad (hopefully that link works...) as the ugliest ad I have ever seen on FT.

My wife's former priest used to drink beer with the college students at their church.

HAT TRICK!

I hope a carbon-neutral alternative to Jet-A is developed in the near future. IIRC, some Lab had developed a bacterium that can excrete Bio-Diesel at a price that's competitive with fossil-fuels. It would take an area the size of Alabama to generate enough Bio-Diesel to satisfy domestic demand. I nominate Alabama. :D

The use algae. I wonder if they could adapt it to coastal waters to avoid turning Alabama into a giant pond.

Mass transit would be great, but this country is too big and doesn't have enough people (yet) for that to happen. Nuclear power is a stop gap to renewable energy and would face the same problem as oil, i.e. there's not a lot of it to go around, plus it's energy intensive to mine and refine.

HAT TRICK!

A priest here in CLE used to bless the beer at Great Lakes Brewing Co until, well, he got caught up in the controversy that has plagued the church.
