You can obtain elite status by two ways. Getting enough Elite Qualifying Miles (EQM) within a calender year, or getting enouhg Elite Qualifying Points (EQP). You don't need both.

25,000EQM or 30EQP will get you silver; 50,000EQM or 60EQP will get you gold, 75,000EQM or 90EQP will get your plat.

If you fly that DL fare, you'll get the EQM for your flight, but no EQP.

BTW, that question really shouldn't be on this page. If you have questions, please read the FAQ on the top of this forum, or post another thread.

You know what should be in the faq, but isn't? What a Y-up is. I looked in the main FAQ and it's not there and nothing about it in the fare bucket question. I guess the AU fare class sounds like it, but I'm not sure. In addition I was checking out some flights last week that I might need for work and one of flights had a y-up icon on it, but it sounded like it's based off of elite level, but I'm not elite so I don't know why I would have been shown that.

Y-UP isn't just for elites. Its basically a first class seat with a coach class code.It was invented by airlines to let buisness travelers book a seat in F when their employers systems would only allow a coach booking.

Sortof.

Only CO elites can Y-Up at time of booking (NW elites?? - I think not but am not certain). But, after all the elites are cleared at the gate if there are any Y fares still out there they will also be cleared. If they don't clear they will get a coupon for an upgrade on their next Y/H fare within 90 days that can be confirmed at time of booking. Not sure which bucket the coupon comes out of, but that "benefit" does exist.

The PDA website now gives a more specific description of meals on all flights under the "inflight amenities." Everything from the four meal choices (F) on transcons to the entire meal service offered in both BF and economy on the internationals.

The sticky on VS codeshares currently implies that EQMs will be given for all VS flights between a set of US cities and LHR. In fact, it seems that there are newer VS flights that have been added that do not (yet?) have a CO codeshare, and thus would not be eligible for EQMs. It might be worth suggesting that you need to check the CO timetables to be sure that a flight is listed before assuming it is a codeshare.

Thanks for pointing this out. I've updated the entry to be a little more clear about the situation (at least I think it is).

Updated the TOC to reflect the HNL RevUp post moving.

Updated the "is my flight BF" post to reflect that co.com screws it up every now and then, offering some other pointers on whether a flight is BF marketed or not.

Doctor Edward,

I would like to see a post on the thread showing where shower facilities are available for arriving BF pax, and who they are operated by. For sure the PC's, but if there is a NW, AF, DL, KL, etc. club available with a shower, or if there are paid showers available, that would be great. Thanks!

Bunch of updates

I made a few updates to the FAQ tonight...

I added a new post on TCVs, residual value and getting value back on a non-refundable ticket. There were at least two and possibly three threads on this topic this month, so it seemed a good candidate for the FAQ. Plus, I already had most of the text.

I also updated the post on the standby policy since the new tiered/prioritized policy is now in effect.

And I updated the post on TSA Elite lines to reflect that LAX has lost theirs.

The EWR A-C bus post was updated to reflect that the COEx flights are now in A, not ATL/WAS/BOS/DFW/CHI.

Minor clarification that you do earn EQMs on upgraded flights at the rate of the originally ticketed fare class.

Added new fleet plan for 2010 (thanks to rkkwan's posting of the June 2008 Investor letter).

Edited the BF mileage upgrade policy to reflect the new procedures within 24 hours (hope I got these right).

Edited the stand-by post to reflect the changes regarding the removal of free stand-by.

I just flew out of LAX on Friday morning (6/20/08) and there was an Elite Access line for the ID checking before going up the stairs to the screening machines. Saved me about 30 minutes.
