That may be awhile because, so far, it doesn't seem you've been able to answer anything. Not correctly, anyway.

Unhappy

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls:

It takes a lot to steam me up but the previous posts here have me boiling.

We had someone offer to join our community with the offer, out of the generosity of his/her heart, of insight into the technical operations side of the airline. Someone was only trying to help and instead of welcoming him/her into the community, as you were once welcomed, we scorned him.

He stated his intention simply and clearly. He identified his strengths and how he believed we could help.

Yet I suppose the true crime here was showing the sheer audacity to suggest that we, the elite of the elite, could err. He deserved a chance; the same chance you had, the same chance I had.

I welcome the inflow of knowledge on the technical side of the airline. It affects us all and is very relevant to everyone here. If you cannot see that then I pity you for your world must be painfully small and microscopic.

I thought the majority of us would hold the same opinion. I thought the majority of us had the maturity to see his tone as a simple way of helping us know the truth. Sadly, my faith was misplaced.

I find it odd to be so worked up over something as small as a group of people, gathering around the clock, from around the world to share and recount both the good and the bad of our travel experiences. We created, in the imaginary Razzleberry fields of the Internet, a community of acceptance, good cheer, and friendship. Maybe it was foolish of me to allow myself to find a sense of community and friendship in the land beyond our monitors. But somehow, as I type this letter I find my eyes watering, my heart heavy, and my hands trembling over the violation of no this bludgeoning of the friendship and closeness that ties our community together.

No one is perfect. We all make mistakes. But, I do my best to admit when Im wrong and even in doing so fail many a time to realize my own errors. For this I apologies.

Moderators, please lock and delete this thread to allow us to retain the precious few remaining shreds of our dignity and our community.

Regards,
Justin

Welcome to FT, correction!

Im sorry you were introduced under such circumstances but there is at least one member who is looking forward to your insights.

I have no doubt that after a few clarifications we will realize the value of your point of view.

There must be a more diplomatic way of someone introducing themselves than by writing: "With a little help you can all be informed travellers and not look like know-it-all buffoons!".

Thanks, I do have a technical question. How do you add someone to your ignore list?

Hi correction. Can you please come to the Delta forum? That forum has been quite dead for about 2 weeks now since our beloved Cholula Hot Sauce thread was killed. We need a little humor there.

Thanks!

I agree that correction would be a welcome addition to the DL Forum. But I'm afraid that we'd chase s/he out of the Delta Forum as fast as some here are trying to do. Experts are not well-received around FT Forums especially when they start out with an attitude. We're ALL "experts" in these Forums and we expect the real experts to bow and scrape a bit before they're properly welcomed.....
At any rate, interesting thread thus far. I rarely wander into the CO Forum but I think I may subscribe to this thread and observe the happenings going forward.

If someone wants to share their technical expertise in a way that would appeal to FFs, specifically of CO, lets talk about the following:

752s from Europe to EWR: given (a) customary prevailing winds, (b) normal passenger weights (including luggage), (c) no weight (ok, 2 tons - packages, etc.) allocated for cargo, and (d) required contingencies (extra fuel load, etc.), which of the airports that CO currently serves require limitations on passenger capacity, and if none, what are the 5-10 largest airports within the range of a 752 that CO doesn't serve? ALso, with assumptions a, b and d, what current 752 trans-atlantic flights are significant cargo carriers?

767s: what other airlines operate 762s using the same engines that CO uses (and, therefore, might be logical sources for CO to explore buying used, compatible widebody a/c)? same question re 764 and 772.

Correction, I look forward to your detailed answers.

Au contraire, Cholula, I think that correction would be very welcome on the Delta Forum.

It would be the forum which you moderate, Travel Safety/Security which would chase him off.

The man not only wants to "arm speedbrakes or spoilers" but also to "target" the WorldPerks Forum.

The mere thought of armed spoilers aiming at Northwest passengers is certain to send the anti-gun types on your forum into a frenzy.

On the Delta Forum, we would not only welcome correction but also the armed spoilers -- epecially if we could convince them to include Gate Gourmet among their targets.

I can't really answer the question about the 752 for several reasons. The block times you see when you book the flight are based on a variety of factors. However it is primarily historical data. The fewer flights operated, the less accurate the number. If you are asking what new 752 destinations CO might serve out of EWR? Well... that's up to CO. I think they are still waiting to see how the winglets pan out. By the way, the 752 is a terrible "cargo carrier" because of the size of the bins. It only handles "bulk" cargo and not the LD-type containers. Of course you knew all of that.

About the 762: CO uses GE-powered 762s and the problem with obtaining new 762s is not powerplant, but other fleet commonality issues and number of cycles. Go ride on a DL 762 and then a CO 762 and the difference is quite obvious. The older 767s are in poor shape. Not to mention the availability of 767-200ER models is extremely limited. An example of fleet commonality will come up this fall as the ATA 753s are delivered. There are quite a few differences between the CO 753 and the ATA 753, but some of the important things (like powerplants) are the same. If I remember correctly, the brown interiors will remain though.

Used 764 and 777? I don't think there are any available. Just because you see it in the desert doesn't mean it's for sale.

WOW, I get a little taste of Katrina last week and have been without internet and when I get back look what's going on. Well Correction, let me welcome you. At the same time I will ask that you please tame your taunts and name calling. We are all pretty friendly in both of the forums you are choosing to target. The other moderator of this form and I are also 2 of the 4 in the NW forum. So there as well I please ask you to watch the tone of yours posts and your name calling. No where claims to know everything (well too often), but we are all here to learn and further our understanding.

Oh and me personally, until GE figures out there little issue with the 767 engines. I think i would I do best to just pass for riding on them.
