Excuse me? When was this?

The irony of you falsely accusing me of spreading unsubstantiated rumors is pretty comical.

Airlines are absolutely loath to give up any fees if people are paying them. While sometimes they do get rolled back (e.g. fuel surcharges), it's almost always due to competitive pressures. But competition is also at risk with the code-share deals and potential mergers ahead.

A worst-case example is probably the change fees for paid low-fare tickets, which keep rising even though the effort required to do the change has dropped significantly.

This whole episode goes against the better tenets of business, namely, that in tough times you need to focus on the customer and improving your product and adding value within your abilities to do so. Inventing new junk fees and then trying to play the high-fare passengers off against the low-fare ones is taking the low road. Just as they had lots of runoff in 1994 when they gutted OnePass benefits, so too do they deserve it now.

This sort of thing is contagious among airlines. I sent the following message to Onepass online CS after talking at length with a Worldperks supervisor who promised to take it up in meetings.

Cast your vote! Let Onepass know and let Worldperks know.

To Onepass CS:
I've heard reliable information that CO plans to stop giving full mileage awards to least expensive fare basis, and will start charging cash for Onepass members who book award travel just a few days ahead.

If this becomes official, I will no longer fly with CO on any fare basis, including coast-to-coast and European travel planned later this year, and will book only NWA/KLM. I am reporting this also to Worldperks senior management. CO must stop this nickel-and-diming of its loyal customers.

All that we have been told is that any changes will be announced in the October UPDATE which mails in September.

SFinFlaGuy, HP's really turned the ship around. They're in second place this year to CO for on-time flights.

FC is nice, although I'm told the food is notch below that of CO. (I've only done short-hauls myself.) Coach is about the same as CO, although with less food. And there is in-flight entertainment on the Airbuses and 757s, which are about 2/3rds of the fleet and on most medium to long hauls. Maybe even some of the 737s have it. I'm not sure.

I've never had bad service on HP or in the airport from its agents, even during the bad times (I'm lucky, I guess), but the airline has won over local flyers again who avoided it in droves during its unreliability a couple years ago.

Since it's still on your web site (to which this FT thread links, how convenient) perhaps we can revisit something you've never answered. ITYT states:

ITYT is the fastest growing Internet travel community.
Do we know this for a fact? As I noted in this thread, on May 5 ITYT had 2166 articles. As I write this (Sep. 9), I see ITYT has 2768 articles, which seems to work out to an average of about 5/day, with you contributing 39% of all posts.

Frankly I'm a bit surprised you keep posting here since in the thread above you wrote about Randy:

If there is irony in cigarman accusing you of spreading unsubstantiated rumors/facts, I would suggest it does not rest where you say it does.

Maybe something spooked them. The four newest CA sources all joined in the last few months:

EWRBased/FA: Aug 2002
CalPilot: Sep 2002
FAfor CAL: Aug 2002
CalGal727: Jun 2002

I too would like to hear from any of them..even if it's the Sgt Schultz response.

Okay, maybe it's rumor, but maybe it's not. Here's an interesting dilemma.

I fly CLE-BWI a lot, in order to avoid getting gouged in CLE-PHL and CLE-EWR markets. Full Y on WN is $200. CO matches the fare, but its a Q fare. So I can fly 8 roundtrips, spend $1600 (or LESS), and get an "easy to use" award ticket to get to SEA with only one connection. OR.... I can fly CO, not be able to use the miles to upgrade, get missed by EUA, and get no credit because even tho' I'd be spending more money than I'd HAVE to, Gordo still won't think it's enough. Apparently, CO thinks their CLE-BWI service is so much BETTER than WN, that I'm expected to pay a fare higher than WN's highest fare?

I don't think so. I've got plenty of miles that I can't use now! Why should I be trying to earn more?

It makes perfect sense to me that tickets priced to match all-coach airlines would not be elligible for upgrade.

I think we all agree that first class is worth some additional amount of money, particularly when compared to Q&T fares. The airlines would be crazy not to try to charge us more for it.

Besides, given the potential alliance with Delta, this brings the two frequent flier programs into closer allignment.

On the other hand, HP usually matches WN's fares and allows upgrades. And HP might be the next airline (after WN and FL) to declare a quarterly profit. All this while having their two biggest operations next to two of WN's biggest operations -- PHX and LAS.

I think you can get your free ticket with 4 RT's if you book your ticket online.

Plus you don't have the "use it or lose it" policy and seats that are more comfortable.

Although, geez, have you ever flown in their "first class"? There's more legroom in E+ on United!

Nope Billiken still here. Read the threads everyday. I find this very helpful as Continental does not give Inflight any information on One Pass. I found out what an EUA was from this board. Always wondered why the F class would fill up the night before. But us who serve you on the aircraft are kept out of the loop about One Pass. I take time while on layovers to inform my self.
