Incidentally, apparently, as of 1/1/03, one will get 500 or 1,000 miles for a Q trip EWR to HKG. Before 1/1/03 it would have been 16,000 status miles and 36,000 account miles. </font>
Not necessarily-- maybe you'll get the 125% plat bonus on the 1000 miles?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

In actuality, I can't quite believe CO is serious about this-- maybe it was conceived before US went back on the plan-- and may never be promulgated?

Maybe someone on a first name basis with Gordo the Liar or Mr. Bergsrud ought to tell them about this thread or e-mail it to them.

Although they've never cared in the past.

You never know until the fat lady sings (or the press release is issued -- well, maybe no press release with CO :&lt; ) -- but I suspect this info is genuine. On the yahoo investment board, we got a similar post late last night from a reliable source in CO's Tampa res office. My guess is that something is on the internal Sonic system right now.

So if I was betting, I'd go with 90% chance of genuineness.

Oh, also we got a tip last week to watch for new "big" cost-saving initiatives this week.

I'm wondering if this is ALL that will be announced. That said, I can't independently confirm the info.

In that case, holy carp!

I expect my e-mail box to be flooded with requests from my old friends here to get info on AA-- and I'll be happy to oblige. I now know AA/OW pretty darn well and can get you up and "running" in no time!

Good thing I'm not the type to say "I told ya' so."

Maybe AA can't keep up the good times forever-- but for the time being, how does upgradeable fares of $500+/- to Europe, NRT and S. America sound to ya'?

SFnFlaguy,

If you're in SFO, you might want to give HP a look. Their FF program is basically what CO's was a couple years ago. And, best of all, with HP you can actually afford a walkup fare, should you ever be forced to buy one.

</font>
Thanks for the advice. The only reason that I didn't mention HP as one of my choices is that I had a horrible experience with HP a while back.

How are they now? How's their IFE? FC? and most importantly, their Y cabin?

Overall, I really hope that CO doesn't go through this. I'm still in Graduate School and work full time.....there's just no way I can go for the higher fares at the moment.

Just a side note, I do understand that CO must do something in order to remain viable. If this is their solution, so be it. I just won't be here to endure it....

(I'll just do my best to find some use for my OP miles.....and maybe even return in a couple of years once they have re-enhanced OP for the better)

Also, everyone should remember that this is certainly subject to change before it's official. Who knows?

Just spoke with a OnePass agent who said that effective 01/01/03, there will be a fee to change the dates of award travel, even if you are not changing the cities. She said they had heard other airlines were imposing a similar rule next year as well.

That is the first I've heard of this enhancement...
</font>
All of these fees are getting ridiculous. Fees now to book reward travel less than 14 days in adavance, a fee to change that reward flight, and of course the standard fee to redepoist a reward. All this "free" travel is getting costly.

I've always used my rewards for flights when I've needed flexibility due to uncertain travel dates. Now they've made that a lot less attractive. If I've got to pay $50 to use the reward at the last minute, then $100 if I change it, and $35 (I think) to redeposit.... (sigh) maybe I should just use Priceline for a cheapo ticket and take what I can get.

Seems like Continental (along with all the others) is spending too much time thinking up ways to dip into our pockets for a few "nickles and dimes" and ignoring the one way that they could really help themselves - providing a fare structure that makes more sense.

I'm glad you made this so clear in your topic heading and your posts on ITYT. Thanks for making the speculation fly. That's what this forum is all about, right?!?

Has anyone noticed that has been absolutely zero comments from any of the CO employees that visit this board (Resagent86, 1passguy,etc.). One would presume that they have access to true information. In the past, they have been only to happy (and I thank them for it) to tell us when we are off base. In this case, their silence is deafening.

Uhh...it's been 16 hours since this was first posted. Could it be that they have lives outside flyertalk.com???? It's a stretch, but that could be the reason...

I need to book travel for four of us in November, CLE to SFO. I look at orbitz, and see that CO is about $432. OK, at least we'll get 4400 miles, plus elite premium , etc. I also happen to look at Delta- $128 round trip, via Cincinnati- same dates, nearly the same times. $1200 savings. Without the elite miles, I won't even look twice.</font>

Over $400 CLE-SFO? It's certainly not a Q or T fare, so normal rules would apply. If CO matched that DL fare, it would be a T, no doubt.

I don't like it, because a lot of the "aww geez, we gotta match WN" fares from CLE are Q fares.

This "test balloon" raises some interesting questions. Will CO be able to exclude K and V fares on NW/KL? Will CO be able to exclude the lowest fare categories on AS? Partnerships are great, but the logistics of this plan might be too unwieldy to implement. Or it might drive some customers into the arms of the partners 100%. Should be interesting to watch....

This is stupid. RUMOR. DBAKER has posted many others that never came true. People should pause and think before they start rumor threads; they serve no useful purpose. Perhaps, something will change, perhaps not. But guessing is useless.
