Already in the works... I had asked him for something central and not too expensive. I figured around 20 - 30 Euros for entrees. I should have some input tomorrow.

That sounds excellent, many thanks! Please post here as soon as you confirm the reservation (12 sounds good), so that we can start a list of who's interested.

Lucky has suggested post my offer to do a tour of Musée d'Orsay

Date: Saturday
Time: 11:00-1:00Pm
Period: Impressionism.
Brief introduction on why and when and the impact it had on art world .
Highlights: Works by Manet,Monet, Renoir, Degas.
Discuss the artist's social background and how it impacted their style and subject matter as we view their works.

This tour will be from Art Historian point of view. The information will be from papers I wrote on these artists and their works for my undergraduate degree in Fine Art History.
I have kept all of my papers to pass on to my children & theirs hoping they will develope the passion I have for Art.

I'll start it right now. Where will this activity leave from? A hotel, or are we meeting there?

Looks like some plans are beginning to coalesce ...

Update Bofinger on Friday night. We can have reservations for 7:00PM.
Table holds 6. I can reserve 2 tables for 12.
I promise to call them tomorrow with the number.
Count me in for Friday dinner and Saturday dinner should we get one reserved.

I had asked him for something central and not too expensive. I figured around 20 - 30 Euros for entrees. I should have some input tomorrow.
BTW just in case there's a communication gap ... 20 to 30 Euro for entrées is OK by me, except be careful because an "entrée" is a starter/appetizer course in France (as it is in the UK and pretty much everywhere except the US and Canada); it literally means an "entry." So if the French restaurant offers an "entrée" for 30 Euro, it means a $47 appetizer. Which can of course be outstanding value for certain appetizers, but pricey for many budgets. $31 to $47 for a main course, or an appetizer for that matter, but may strain budgets especially since you'd inevitably have to match it with an appropriate wine, etc., etc. ...

Date: Saturday
Time: 11:00-1:00Pm
Period: Impressionism
Highlights: Works by Manet,Monet, Renoir, Degas.
I'm game for that as well unless we have too large a crowd. And let's not forget the lovely Cézannes, Van Goghs and James McNeill Whistlers that also grace this former train station.

I'm up for the museum tour. yyzprincess, do you think it's best to buy museum tickets ahead of time? Don't know what to expect in terms of lines.

I agree there are several great works of art in Musée d'Orsay .
Having taken many friends and business associates on Museum tours, much is gain if one concentrates on a period.
Far more enriching experience than running all over the museum floor by floor trying to see all the masters, barely glancing at their work.Within couple of weeks the visit is a blur.

For 2 days , I would strongly suggest concentrating on 2 museums.
The Louvre & Musée d'Orsay. If you go in the morning no need. By the afternoon lines tend to form for tickets especially at The Louvre.

For Louvre I would highly recommend a morning visit. The most viewed works do not have hoards of people crowiding around the works.
Mosts city tours tend to be in the morning and the average tourist is on these tours.

If you're going to the Louvre (9 Euro) and the d'Orsay (8 Euro), and have a penchant for at least one other museum (say the modern art at Centre Pompidou for 12 Euro) or even something like the Arc de Triomphe (you can go in and up top for 8 Euro), or the towers at Notre Dame (ditto) consider the museum pass. You break even at 3 museums and more importantly don't stand in line for tickets. Louvre in particular can be long and tourist season has begun. D'Orsay should be comparatively calm.

2 days of unlimited museuming, at over 60 sites, for 30 Euro.

In 2 day can be done if one wants to Zip through.
The Louvre, D'Orsay, Centre Pompidou, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame. Cabbing it I would presume. As a a regular visitor to Paris, I am sure you are knowledgable about the time involved just going in & out of the Metro stations.
I chuckle when I see individuals in Louvre trying to run from Mona Lisa to The Winged Victory to Michaelangelo's Slave.

Sample Itinerary.
Friday: Land at 7:00AM. Cab to the hotel afterall you want to get the most of your 30 Euro Museum Pass.
9:00AM: Arrive at the Hotel. Room ready. Quick Check-in. Up to the room. Shower and change.
10:00AM: Metro to Louvre. Must see. Mona Lisa ,next Winged Victory,Next Greek Etruscan and Roman Antiquities to seeThe Venus de Milo.Quick run through Paintings. Delacroix :Liberty Leading the People ,David's:The coronation of Emperor Napoléon and Empress Josephine.
1:00PM: On to the Metro. Notre Dame. Run through. Quick jog up the towers.
3:00PM: Lunch maybe.
By 5:00PM flatout.

Saturday: Up crack of dawn. Breakfast by 8:00AM. On the road by 8:30AM. First stop Arc de Triomphe .Walk around. Go up. Take photo.
10:00AM: Off to Centre Pompidou. Walk about to see the architecture. The colored pipes. Quick read of the history. Off to see works by Max Ernst, ManRay,Kandinsky,Klee. Of course quick glance only.
11:00AM: Musee D'Orsay. Out by 1:00PM.Again quick run through all the floors.
Off to the Eiffel Tour.Out by 3:00PM.
By 5:00PM flatout.

To appreciate Paris is to stroll through the neighbourhoods.Stop at a cafe. Pickup a crepe from one of the windowed stops in St.Germain de Pres.
Do a Museum in the morning. Leave the afternoon for strolling for sights & smells of Paris. That is a truly a Paris Experience.
Not running from museum to museum monument to monument.
