For some perhaps, but not for me. I prefer the Hilton Paris or as the Diamond Desk kept insisting, the Hilton Eiffel Tower.

It just said to respond as quickly as possible. It took me exactly 19 minutes to cancel everything for those two days and I confirmed by email. I had already arranged, as others had, for the hotel (with points) and the positioning flight (with miles), both of which I could cancel without penalty if I was not a Chosen One.

A quick question for those Hiltoners-- what do people think of spending the second night at the Paris Orly since our flight is somewhat early (although not that early considering the time change)? I could really use the extra stay credit, not to mention the fact that it's 10,000 points cheaper is a nice bonus. Can any locals/people familiar with Paris chime in on how long it would take to get from the city (specifically area of the Hilton Paris) to the Hilton Orly by the cheapest transportation method possible? If enough of us switch we could have a Saturday late night activity in that neck of the woods.

One of my favourite place for lunch in Paris is:
L'As du Fallafel in Marais. Unfortunately closed on saturday.
Sandwitches are excellent & cheap. A meal under 10 Euros.

For art lovers in the group: Musée d'Orsay. Musee Picasso
On 21 June at 8:00PM at d"Orsay Music Fest. Kurt Masur will conduct the orchestre.Admission is Free.
That looks excellent to me! How about lunch there on Friday then? I assume we can't (or at least don't want to) make reservations, but it seems like it would be tough to get a table, no?

Good Call Dave and thanks for reminding me. I won't be there in Paris Saturday because all over France it is the Fte de la Musique!! Every French town worth it's salt will have some kind of celebration and indeed they party into the wee hours. Check out the Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C3%AAte_de_la_Musique or the official site at http://fetedelamusique.culture.fr/

The streets of Paris will be alive all over. If I were you guys, I would say to heck with jet lag, pound the Red Bull, hit the streets around 10pm and stay up til dawn. You are very lucky to be in France at this time.

If you want to try to see the best concerts, go to http://fetedelamusique.culture.fr/programme_france.php and poke around the different genres in the different neighborhoods. As for cheap food, there will be street vendors all over. In Paris you can eat on any budget. Just get away from the obvious tourist places.

It takes roughly a half-hour on the metro to get to Orly. Or perhaps an hour from your hotel door to the check in desk considering you will be lugging a bag or two with you. Take the RER B to the Orly Val. I think the cost is about 8.

Does anyone else think that any FTer with Paris as part of their handle, should be given preference in the selection process?

That sounds like a pretty nice idea. IIRC, our corporate rate was looking pretty good @ the Orly property --- though, I'll have to check it out a bit later.

I've been lurking since 2004 and signed up in 2006. Fortunately for the odds, it was impossible to sign up just for the contest.

.

I was thinking about doing Saturday night at Orly Airport Hilton as well. I have booked a room should I decide to go that route.

Saturday 21 June is StreetParty Night in Paris. Music Fest.We are lucky to be there on 21 June. I know I will be up late.
If others decided to stay at Orly Hilton we could share a cab and check-in in the wee hours and sleep in late.

No reservations taken.Yes we can have lunch there on Friday. If we go after the lunch crowd we will get a table. Say at 2:00PM.

That's what I was thinking as well. We could probably leave our bags at previous hotels and then pick them up before the transfer. Does the metro not run late, or is it not safe that late?

Edit: Ah, sharing a cab with three or four people would be a good, probably cheap idea as well.

Would that also be time time it will take to go to the airport on Sunday morning from downtown Paris?

I still haven't decided yet at which hotel I'm staying. Some of them do have extortion rates both in Points and in Euros...

Paris Hilton's website indicates that a cab from the hotel to CDG is 35 Euros, so wouldn't it be even cheaper to Orly? Can any local estimate how much a cab would be from Paris Hilton to Orly Hilton?

Seems like that could be a pretty good option...

Metro is safe if we are a group.I have taken metro after a late night out if with a group. The metro runs late. We could leave the baggage at one hotel. One with a metro across the street.

I suggested the same thing in my email entering the contest. Apparently only two of us think that way!
