Welcome to FlyerTalk, mara916, and look forward to meeting you!
^
BTW, since we're only a few days out and communication might be a bit of a challenge in France (since many of us aren't inclined to pay $5/min for a phone call), would anyone like to take charge of a certain activity, maybe someone with a bit of knowledge of Paris (or at least more than a first-timer)? Something like, "I'll be going to XYZ at noon on Saturday. Post here if you want to join me, I'll start in the lobby of the Hilton Paris." While I think we're all pretty good explorers on our own, lots of times it's fun to go in groups.

Welcome to FlyerTalk mara916! I see you just joined FlyerTalk today. Feel free to take a look around the site. If you are a frequent flyer or even someone who is an aviation fan, this is a great place for you. I also have never been to Paris and only know the basics in greetings, so you're not alone in that respect. FlyerTalk has a wealth of information on its pages and you can always find a helpful member to have an answer to an obscure question. You just need to post it in the appropriate forum.
Did someone direct you to this thread or did you just google it?

Hi all, I am on the flight as well, but am new to this site and thread. What is OP?
Also, I'm flying Biz going out, Prem+ returning, and staying at Le Meridien Etoile in between. I've never been to France, and don't speak a word of French. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone, and enjoying my first weekend in Paris!

So is there a consensus on a dinner on either Friday or Saturday night?
I am staying with a friend in the Defense area. I can ask him to recommend a central restaurant that is not to expensive for a dinner.
Any thoughts?

I think someone's leg is being pulled b/c:
1) mara916 is NOT on the list as provided by Randy, and
2) Contest rules provided that anyone who's registration for FT had been prior to the time of the posting of the announcement was ELIGIBLE.
3) mara916 has a join date of today.

Seems there is some consensus for a Friday night dinner but nothing going for Saturday. Maybe your friend can recommend a central restaurant serving fresh fruit-de-mer (i.e. a restaurant with a raw bar), and make some tentative rezzies?

Wow!
Hats off to Randy, FT and OpenSkies for arranging what will be an unforgettable event.
I noticed suggestions for good restaurants are welcome, so I thought I'd let you know there is a hidden gem in the west of Paris which is well worth a visit.
It is off the beaten track in a lovely area of Paris called Neuilly.

Yes it is italian. However, the mood and ambience is true Paris. And the food is sublime. Yet the prices are modest, even for those with Monopoly bills
The Parma Ham is a given starter (Just ask for a plate) and the Tiramisu is the best I've had. I visit this place on every visit to Paris. We usually end up eating plate after plate of Parma Ham, accelerating digestion with chilled Rose
They do both Lunch and dinner, every day of the week. Highly recommended. Very easy to get with metro. Take the yellow 1 line towards La Defence (Finance District). Disembark at Pont De Neuilly.
Enjoy your Do! (Very jealous)

Yes, the place looks great. I'd be up for eating there sometime on Saturday. The place holds 220 so a group shouldn't be a problem, especially if we can get reservations. It also looks like they have prix fix options for groups.

Finally got my confirmation and went to "manage bookings" to try and select a seat. I keep putting in my confirmation number and last name, and keep getting a message saying it's not valid. United.com in the making.
