So, for out-of-towners coming to the Do, what would you like to see and do while here?? With 6 weeks to plan, we should start pulling things together soon.
*A Mileage Running seminar

Actually, I would really like to get to tour Phoenix and get to know more than just which exit off 101 I am supposed to get off at. There are several parks around town - perhaps a picknick somewhere?

My knowledge of Phoenix isn't that great, but I've always enjoyed the Desert Botanical Gardens - doubt that you can have a picknick there, but maybe. Otherwise, the area near the DBG and the Zoo is kind of cool with Hole-in-the-Rock Mountain (or whatever it's called).

There's Lost Dutchman State Park near Apache Junction, but that might be too far of a drive...

The Sheraton Crescent Hotel is having a weekend promo (code LTOAUG06) untill October 27 for $75++.
Celebrate the changing of the season with great weekend rates from just $75 per night at the Sheraton Crescent Hotel.

This autumn, explore Phoenix and enjoy cooler weather and great rates. Simply arrive on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday between August 31, 2006 and October 27, 2006, to take advantage of this Special Limited Time Offer. This offer must be booked by Friday, September 1, 2006.
You can make a mattress run out of it and alternate with the nearby Four Points by Sheraton Phoenix Metrocenter for $89++ (AAA or AARP rate).

I will not be able to make it as I will be heading up a volunteer project at the bottom of the Grand Canyon that week.

Is it possible that we can get an update on the proceedings and planning stages of the DO within the next week or two? As it stands at the current moment, I'm straddling between having to miss out on certain parts depending on when things are scheduled and not being able to make it at all.

Even though I'm not going, can someone eat a burger from the Chuck Box for me?

It's only the best burger ever (though different category than In-n-Out). Grilled over charcoal ^ Then you customize it with the condiment bar ^^

Plus, a great name ^^^

Yep. By far the greatest burger I've ever had. ^

Though I'm not sure what the sentiment will be if 20+ FT'ers storm in all at once for, say, lunch.

gfowler, know that those hotels are a good 20+ miles from the airport. FWIW.

The park with the hole in the rock is Papago Park. About 2 miles from Sky Harbor property.

In addition to meals, what else would folks like to see/do? Mrp Alert, I will log your request.

I've been meaning start attending selected DOs, so...if only for the fact that I have the enviable position of being able to hop on an airplane to PHX at a moment's notice for free, and as such, I may attend.

I'll probably be a last minute confirmation based on my personal availability and flight availability, so please don't rely on my attendance for any seat/spot allocation purposes, although be aware that I may just swoop in after all.

I have emailed a few of the PHX folks on this board in hopes of getting some help with organizing a Saturday evening dinner. Stay tuned!

Yes, but $85 for a PHX 3 star hotel (Crescent) in October is a fairly good deal. The best internet price for the Crescent is now $135. Golds generally get the club floor and platinums a club floor junior suite.
