"Chevy on the Levee" Night sounds like the better of the two, so I'll opt for it. I can make either night, however.

I agree on the posting in AA/WN, so these local folk can discover what they've been missing. ;)

what? swag in town???

I'm unsure on the 6th, but the 13th I should actually be able to make it. :)

Two items of business....

One

July 14 (this Thursday night). We are going to go to Blue Ocean. Its located on the border of Lewisville and Coppell about one mile west of I-35. For those coming from Fort Worth, its a 30 minute drive, those coming from North Dallas, 10 to 15 minutes away, and from downtown, about 20-25 minutes. And for the small collection of those of us in the midcities suburbs, anywhere from 1 minute to about 15.

We'll plan to meet at 7:30 pm... its a small restaurant but I"m not going to make reservations unless we top over four of us coming. They have a nice bar and if you arrive early, Peter will be happy to serve you a great martini or glass of wine from their fairly impressive (for a sushi joint) collection.

For those who are not huge sushi fans, they do have a good non-sushi selection including a few Thai and Vietnamese selections on the menu as well as general chicken/beef dishes. If you are a sushi fan, they also have an impressive selection of rolled sushi including a few unusual selections I haven't seen much elsewhere. Bring your appetite!

The restaurant is located at the NW corner of MacArthur and 121 - its about a half-mile south of Vista Ridge Mall. Its located in a very nondescript strip mall where the main anchor is 7-11.

So, to recap:

Please post here if you can make it so I know whether or not to call Kim and reserve a larger table.

Two.

As far as the August Cats came, cool. We have three of us for the 13th... and I'm sure techmom will want to join us so that makes four at least.

Any other takers want to weigh in or suggest a different date before I start planning this?

Cats games are totally fun - minor league baseball is a wonderful way to spend a summer Saturday evening. The games are inexpensive, even for reserved seats. You pay $2 to park (or $3 for "premium" parking). Beer is cheaper than at major league ballparks (and you can also get wine, margaritas, strawberry daquiris, and various "nonbeer" beers like Mikes, Smirnoff Ice, etc.). Your chances of catching a foul ball are high.

I'm in for both gatherings.

Twatwaffles  My stoopid client doesn't know their rear from a hole in the ground - don't know if I can make Thursday yet

Let us know... I can easily add/subtract seats - I just need to let Kim know if I'm going to need her to pull a couple of tables together.

I'm in for the baseball game.

Most likely I'll have to skip dinner tomorrow. If I can make it, I probably wouldn't know until about 5 pm. (Depends how my dog is doing after anesthesia for a teeth cleaning). How late can I sign up?

techgirl Jul 13, 2005 9:42 am

As late as you want... right now it looks like Studley and I are the only ones confirmed for sushi (points friendly too!) - so unless we are going to have more than four, we are fine - hopefully we'll wrangle a couple more folks... this place has great food and good cocktails too! A few out-of-town FTers have dined there with me on short layovers - I haven't heard complaints about the place yet. ;)

Gotcha! Just kidding! :p

Techgirl and I decided to make this up to throw y'all a curve ball about the wonderful time we had tonight. :D ;) I enjoyed my first taste of raw sushi (before now, I've only had the cooked variety), and I can definitely see more gatherings happening here.

Of course, it's always fun to be in the company of my dear friend techgirl. :)

boilermaker Jul 15, 2005 9:43 am

Studley - sushi is supposed to be raw :p

Glad you two had a good time. Hopefully I can get my act together by August :o

techgirl Jul 18, 2005 6:43 am

Okay - so I'm going to start compiling the list for August now. Game plan will be dinner somewhere on the Northside/near North (i.e. downtown) around 5:00-5:30 followed by the Cats game at 7:00 pm on Saturday, August 13.

I've got a couple of girlfriends who want to come too... but even then, we have to have at least 20 seats finalized 21 days in advance to get a group and I don't think we'll have that.

Still, I'm going to need to get these tickets fairly well in advance - so I'm going to ask for firm numbers and PayPal by Thursday, August 4. The tickets will not be super expensive - I'm asking folks to please PayPal me $10.50 (which will cover my cost to process the $$ on PayPal - and if I can't get us reserved box seats, then I'll bring cash to refund the difference). I'm also planning to pick an inexpensive place to eat (entrees under $10) and parking and beer at LaGrave Field are both cheaper than over in Arlington. If you don't drink and want a fun night out, you can do this for under $25.

If you are going to attend, please PM me and I'll send you the info to PayPal me.

Happy to see that I've been added to the maybe list even though I forgot about the August meeting. :D Oops. :o

I'm in Austin for the summer, and I keep forgetting to mention this to the boss whenever I call her. I'll get on it and get back to you sometime (relatively) soon.

Just looked up LaGrave Field - holy crap! That'll be easy from Saginaw. :)

What about Esperanza's or something like that?

empedocles Jul 25, 2005 10:46 am

Appears that we can make an appearance. :)
