Hi mcrt,

I'm not sure if I can make it on Saturday.

As far as your questions, you could ride the Trinity River Express from the airport to Downtown Dallas. While you are there, you could visit the Sixth Floor Museum. This would use up a couple of hours of time.

I can't make Saturday... already have plans. Still a maybe for the 29th - will depend on how much progress I make in the next two weeks on the deadlines I have for the 30th.

I'm not going to be able to make it Saturday. I couldn't change the plans I had.

3ata, I'm thinking Duke's Roadhouse, since it will be the best time with reasonable weather. We'll get to the Tipperary eventually.

Sorry you can't make lunch. Thanks for the tips. Do you know which stops would be best for the HRC and the Sixth Floor? Are these walkable from the train?

I was just looking at the KVS tool and it is showing zero available on my outbound. Maybe I'll get offered a bump.

You take the train, which is actually called the Trinity Railway Express, also known as the TRE, to Union Station, which is downtown. The Sixth Floor Museum is at the corner of Elm and Houston Streets, with Dealey Plaza nearby, all walking distance from Union Station, which itself is on Houston. The HRC is in the West End, not far from this. Map

This site describes the train and routes, and the station at DFW International Airport.

The old Dallas County Courthouse (nicknamed "Big Red" for the color of its bricks), and the log cabin John Neely Bryan built on the first settlement in Dallas, are also in close proximity to these venues.

Duke's I can probably make - Addison is much better proximity for a school night. (Agree that we will do the Tipperary eventually... preferably on a weekend night when I can sleep it off the next day!)

Cool. Then let's do this.

Duke's Original Roadhouse

4180 Belt Line Road
Dallas, TX 75001
Phone: 972-503-2337

Thursday, September 29

We'll meet up at 06:45, and we can get a table at 7 PM.

I checked with the staff at Duke's and they say that it shouldn't be a problem getting a table, and I'll check again that afternoon, so if you are going to be in town or visiting us and can get there, please post here, so I can give them a good headcount.

The Sixth Floor was very interesting. Thanks for the tip on that one. Taking the TRE into town is not a very efficient way to get. You take a bus to the south remote parking, then another to the TRE station, then the TRE, and it doesn't run on Sundays :( Once I was in town going to the HRC took some doing, first the DART, then a bit of a walk ending up on a street car.

If nothing else it was good to see something of Texas other than airports.

I figured the TRE excursion would use up quite a few hours of time, which is why I suggested it. As a metropolitan area that loves the automobile, we're still learning and embracing the concept of publicly-funded and operated mass transit. ;) I'm glad you enjoyed The Sixth Floor.

I land at DFW at 6 pm on Thursday. Have to stop and pick up the dog, drop her at home, and then I'll head to Dukes. Figure sometime around 7:30 +-, depending on traffic, flight delays, and whether our gate is open.
