Tonight. Abacus. 7:30.
I imagine I will order a drink in the bar prior to being seated, but I'm going to be cutting it close to make it any earlier than 7:30. |
I really enjoyed the night out with 3ata and techgirl, and I finally found out the answer to the question, "Who is John Galt?"
John, you're definitely more than an honorary DFW FT'er. It was great meeting you, and we'll see you at future gatherings. :) Lobster Shooters rock! ;) |
It was definitely a delightful dinner...the food as much as the company.
The drive home was NOT....I didn't notice that the interchange between 75 and 635 was closed! Lucky I hadn't had anything to drink...I'd never have figured it out after 3-4 glasses of wine..... It's neat to meet people who are in a different industry....as most of the people I talk to are bankers or E&P guys...looking forward to the next one. boilermaker, we missed you! I bet the softshell crab and molten chocolate cake was tastier than the durian! |
Sorry I missed out - I got a last minute call to help put with a presentation. At least it was billable ^ . Next time you're in Texas, I bet someone can bring by a durian to share ;)

I have to say that I quite enjoyed that discussion last night... its been years since I've found someone willing to talk Objectivism with me!
|
My co-workers and I had the Abacus Tasting Menu last night. 9 courses:
Tuna tartare tempura roll skate wing salmon haliibut Palate cleanser: peach sorbet with mint pork duck 3 ways (foie gras, seared breast, duck confit in a crepe) venison medallions artisanal cheese plate--parmesan, chevre, triple creme brie dessert: chocolate napoleon, coconut pie, banana pie |
That's it. I don't like you anymore. :P
When is the next Dallas dinner? I would love to do the tasting at Nobu... although we'll need to plan in advance for that one. Maybe I can get you guys up towards MY neighborhood for a sushi dinner? |
That's it. I like you again. :p ;)
We haven't done sushi at all, and I'm definitely in for it. Your neighborhood sounds fabulous, since we haven't been there in quite some time. We haven't set a date for July - any ideas? Mid-month or later, perhaps? Maybe then, all you folks from out-of-town who keep threatening to come to one of our gatherings can make plans far enough ahead of time to get here. :p |
I'm looking at my July calendar and I'm tied up all the weekends already (height of minor league baseball!) - we'll probably want to give a bit more notice if we are going to get the out-of-towners in anyhow.
These are the dates that work best for me (if I'm hosting for sushi in Coppell this time): Thursday, July 14 Sunday, July 17 Monday, July 18 If any of those work for folks who are likely to come, let me know. (The place we would be going is less than ten minutes from DFW so anyone coming in for the week that would arrive on Sunday/Monday night or depart on a late flight on Thursday could make it.) |

Those dates work for me. :)

I hate to jump in since I won't be able to join you all (I realize you don't know me but I keep an eye on this thread in case the dates ever coincide with one of my few-times-a-year work trips to the Big D) but saw that you have 3 days available for sushi, a Sunday, Monday, and Thursday. I'm a sushi lover too, and also enjoy reading food-related books. According to Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain (an insider's book about the restaurant industry) one rule is to "never eat fish on a Monday!" as it is the least fresh because of the usual dates restaurants receive fish (Tuesdays and Thursdays). I've noticed that many sushi restaurants offer happy hour and other specials on Monday nights specifically, so perhaps that's why! OK sorry to butt in on your organizing, you all have fun! Hopefully I'll get to meet the DFW FT crew one of these days.
|
I didn't know about the restaurant delivery dates. Good to know.
We hope to see you at one of the gatherings sometime! :) |
I've actually never noticed any inconsistencies or Monday night specials at that particular sushi bar. I know a couple of the sushi chefs there quite well, however, so maybe I'll ask them. ;)
