Ecusador or YVR .. two great places - tough choice! If Ecuador wins out, and it fits your plans, the "Avenue Of The Volcanoes" train trip from Quito down the steepest rail incline in the world, the "Devil's Nose" will be one of the great trips of your life!

Milecrazy,

Glad to have you on board!! The SkyTrain station is down the street from your hotel and runs to the Hyatt Regency downtown or the Seabus Terminus by the Pan Pacific hotel.

Star Alliance have made made commercials with slogans as: "Now you can fly 9 airlines as though they were one" and "Now you can use your favourite FF program on ## airlines as the same" - AC is part of Star Alliance and I am certainly loyal to that. I don't think my lust for gold is very excessive but who knows, it might be

I'll be keeping an eye on this FT Meeting. It may be possible for a visit to YVR from chexfan!

Goldlust .... shareholder is quite an ale connoisseur - I think you 2 should share a Carlsberg and laugh about this in a few weeks time. What he doesn't know about the AC FF plan isn't worth knowing.

I am quite sure Shareholder is a nice person in real life.

This discussion originated in a thread on the AC board which is where it should belong. I did not bring it here but I should not have replied to it here either.

Goldlust ... have received secret notification from North Of The Border that the ale in question should be Shaftesbury's as a certain FT member is a shareholder it seems. I'm buying. Yes, lets talk a fun weekend in YVR, and talk AC tactics/policies over a few drinks there, and not here.

Looks like I will be able to take the five hour flight west for this event. I've decided: No summer job till June

Don't have a hotel yet, but that will change by the end of the day I suspect!

For those with flights on UA/United Express (Skywest) via Seattle, this would be a good time to check on your flight times. Due to schedule changes since I booked, I ended up with connections that might not work (6 minutes on one, 27 minutes on another earlier in the month), for SFO-SEA-YVR.

UA rebooked me today on a nonstop AC flight for one trip, and on Air BC on the SEA-YVR segment for the other.

tom911: Uh-oh!

I have the 6-minute connection problem on the outbound, and a negative time connection on the return. Thanks for the alert!

Update: I have the following options:

Cancel with full refund; since I'm having trouble finding a hotel I like at a price I'm willing to pay, this is a serious possibility.
Take an earlier flight to Seattle; involves waking up at an unreasonable hour (bad); lets me hang out at the SEA RCC for an hour (good).
Take a nonstop SFO-YVR on UA metal (add collect waived due to schedule change); costs me 378 status miles (plus 378 1P/1K bonus miles) and one segment (unwise, if I want to achieve 1K on segments rather than miles).
Opinions?

Since these fares were so good to begin with ($150RT SFO-YVR which included taxes), I'd just be inclined to take the nonstop and be done with it, rather than moving your flight times up a few hours.

Did they offer you the option of the Air Canada code share? I'm on the nonstop that departs just after 2pm now for the get together. I have to say I was surprised they offered me that option, as I expected a full UA routing, no matter how we moved around the flight times. (Now, whether that's a 1K perk or not, I don't have a clue, but from your message it looks as if it was not an option offered to you.)

I'm in the "budget travel" category, so my $20 Priceline room at the Renaissance is more than adequate, so accomodations is probably not a category that I can really comment on as a decision maker.

Tom you bet being a 1K was the main reason.

Dumb question .. but will you get points on both UA and AC in that instance?

Fisch .. quite a few seem to be staying at that Renaissance hotel from posts above its seems. Have you tried Priceline?

I have a UA flight number on Air Canada, so my guess is that I'll get base miles on UA and nothing more. I'm e-ticketed with both UA and AC (UA code share) flights on the same itinerary. I'll lose about 800 miles compared to the UA nonstop where I'd get the 100% bonus, but the flight times on the UA nonstop don't work for me.
