OK... so here is my lineup for this event. While it is true that Argentina is mostly known in the US for its Malbecs from Mendoza, Im going to break the rules and feature not only Malbec. My list includes a Blend, and also wines from the other relevant producing regions outside of Mendoza... to be specific, Im talking about Salta and Patagonia.

Here is the list.....

Wine 1 - 2009 Rutini Antologia XXXI, Mendoza (Malbec)
Wine 2 - 2010 Marcelo Miras Reserva, Patagonia (Malbec-Cabernet based blend)
Wine 3 - 2010 Fincas Notables La Coleccion, Salta (Malbec)
Wine 4 - 2011 Tres Catorce, Mendoza (Malbec)

My bad. I was not sure if the initial listing was proposed wine or declared wine. It is updated. I had one of them in Spain last year, and looking forward to trying it in temp. lower than 38c.

(Note: DLroads+1 will let me know of the bubbles to list and I'd update.)

EDITED: Got BOB W note below. Updated on list

It is Rimarts Gran Reserva 40 (magnum)

No, it does not meet the price point, but it is extremely rare stateside.

Fixed. Going to be a great tasting... 26 different goodies and counting

Edited: Now at the DTW lounge, and the list for the DO is much more attractive than the embarrassing offerings here
Maybe we should have an after-party as well
Edited #2: @ another lounge, and the Cabernet "house wine" may require an apology letter, or a flawed bottle. It's good I sent in advance some good 'stuff' for the research group so that they will not complain

For those that do know what wine they're bringing, please post, so DLroads can update the list.

Still making the tough decisions on what to bring:

monitor
GrjAPP
thewayofthefuture +1
lili
violist
NYBanker
challett

I'll update the OP as wines are posted.

Scratch the '10 Winderlea and replace with the '11 Kosta Browne Chardonnay One-Sixteen.

(DLroads - you got the right wines - I didn't realize how my phone was interpreting the wines in my last post. Last time I try posting on my phone).

I was wondering how seating was going (huge long table, or split). I'm somewhat of a shrinking violet, so I'm doubling up on the '10 Freestone.

For those of you that haven't decided what wine to bring, check the list DLRoads created, or the first post. You can fill in the blanks.

We have 3 rectangular tables.

Your host sends the first pour of each bottle around. Everyone is encouraged to take a short pour. A bottle of wine equals a short pour for all attendees. Please don't overpour. Everyone is encouraged (speaking of shrinking violets) to get up and help themselves to each and every bottle. Each of the 35 - 40 bottles will end up randomly at one of the three tables. You don't have to ask, just help yourself.

What usually happens at WineDo is that by the end of the night, some bottles will be empty, while others will only be half emptied.

Some attendees will park with a few wines, while others will want to taste a little of everything. Do what works for you. @:-)

The subway is just a few blocks away. If you're driving in, it's easy to get a spot on the street.

One last thing, dress is tux for the guys, and evening dresses for the gals.

Brainstorming ideas for future dinners

Some random ideas for WineDo 8 in 2015:

1 bottle per person, but raise the minimum to $xxx?
Raise the minimum to $50? $75? Higher?
Raise the minimum and still allow a bonus bottle?
New location?
Assigned seats?
Have themed tables?
Have 3 tables, all with different price points? This way all the $35 people can sit together, and all the $75 people can sit together. All this while still sharing with each table.

One last thought, the bonus bottles create a bit of an issue. It's much harder to serve 35 wines than it is to share 24.

Please post your ideas.

Don't mess with success

The current formula seems to be working well, IM(nsh)O. We're drinking a lot of great juice. If there's a bit of leftover, so be it. Variety is the _____ of _____. Minimums are already high enough to insure quality (save a corked bottle, etc.) Raising the minimum is going to make the evening $200 a head. While some already spend that, or spend a lot to fly in for dinner , 24 bottles of fancy wine are going to lead to disappointment! (In fact, I had a bottle of disappointment with dinner last week.) Not to mention that with our buy in minimum, we're already drinking things that would range from nearly $100 to $$$ on restaurant menus.

New location?

Bad idea (again, IMnshO) and I know I could muster up a minyan!

Assigned seats? Have themed tables?

4 years running, I've yet to catch cooties or leave with another undesirable ailment. Besides, you've successfully been able to avoid sitting near me.
If you really want to sit near me, all you have to do is ask As far as themes, that would be that each table has a lot of wine, and delicious food.

Have 3 tables, all with different price points? This way all the $35 people can sit together, and all the $75 people can sit together. All this while still sharing with each table.

Recipe for disaster.

This event provides a great way to have a great meal at an "NYC Reasonable Price" and taking that away would cause some potential first-timers to not even consider attending. I've met a lot of nice people over the past 4 years, and believe that some wouldn't have attended if the exclusivity factor was too high. I've also tasted probably in excess of 100 wines, and I can only recall 2 occasions where I had wished I'd have taken an airplane vomit bag to the dinner.

Ok, I'm done with this morning's humble thoughts.
