Oh blast. After saying I was going to register a couple of days ago I got sidetracked & now it sounds like everything is sold out. (at myself). I'll do the waitlist thing I guess.
Decision time for me will be when I have to book my air for Vegas trade show next spring & add in routing to AUS. If I've not cleared when it comes time to book then I'll have to wait for '14. Cheers. |
I must admit that I'm very disappoiinted that the available number of spaces for Thursday and Friday events (Amy's, Perry's, Blue Bell, and the brewery) is so low to have already sold out without regard to who had posted on the thread here.
I was going to have to fly back on Saturday afternoon, and now I have to wonder if I am even going to try to arrange my work trip to Austin for that week to bother attending. |
I was gone over the weekend and didn't notice the registration page opening up so by the time I registered a couple days ago several events were already full. I had no idea it was going to be so popular (or so limited). The one event I am truly disappointed about missing is the Salt Lick BBQ :(
I am waitlisted, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! |

Nevertheless, I posted in six different places that registration was opening in the days leading up to it and certainly on the day of. And last time I looked, 50+ people at most events is not a, "low" turnout. |

Posting in a thread does not equate to reservation of priority in registration. Not sure where such an idea came from.

For example, for many years, that approach was standard operating procedure on Dan's BRTs. Obviously since you're trying to include Milepoint as well, that won't work in this scenario.
And for those who happened to be online on one of those four or five days, I'm sure that you'll have an excellent event. Mackieman had made it clear for months that there was going to be a registration site and not just a list collected from the thread. Mind you the BRT is an all-or-nothing one-day event and this one has many days and parts requiring different amounts of pre-payment. I don't think it's realistic to expect a collection of "I'm interested" posts to track that. And it's not like Mackieman or Pa Kettle made up the capacity limits as they are dictated by the venues and/or transportation. Not every business is willing or able to accommodate a 50+ person group. |

The 11/11 registration opening date was first hinted at on 11/4 ("next week") and given specifically on 11/7. How many of us are really completely away from email for an entire week?

As a 2-time BRT attendee, Dan has been running that event for many years, so has an established 'procedure' in place -- that all interested parties are aware of. Most other DOs (ie. MegaDOs) do not work that way, and AFAIK, most folks aren't expecting that an expression of 'interest' equates to a firm booking (this was 'confirmed' w/the Aug '10 ORD mileage run seminars:eek:)! Also, as much as folks were posting their 'interest' -- there was never any 'list' compiled, & it was always clear that it would be a 'first come, first served' situation once the booking mechanism was open!:-: |
Kind of awesome that they pulled this together.
If anyone missed out on the Salt Lick, I'd be happy to take them to much, much better BBQ during that time. |

I was in Shanghai on 11/11/11 but managed to register once I figured out the time difference. This was primarily due to the ausmegado.com not being blocked like FaceBook and sometimes FlyerTalk. Then Monday evening, I was in the lounge at PVG and helped another FTer register by using my Google Checkout account. At that time there were still 5 places on the bus and all the other venues were open. On the other hand, OneWorld Megado sold out in 14-17-23 minutes and the website was crashing most of that time. I'm guessing (wildly) that after pre-registration of people who attended the launch party, seats held back for contests and officials etc., there were somewhere around 50 seats left on the charter when the hoi polloi attempted to register. In previous years I was able to sign up for the *MegaDos from an Istanbul hotel front desk, and 2* hotel in St. Malo (although PayPal spit that payment back vehemently :)) Thanks to Lurker and Mackieman the Austin registration process was smooth and successful for many. ^^ |

Hey Kettlekorn and Mackster, can we get an update on the remaining capacity of each of the events/days? I have a partial registration and am curious to see what is left, as I am sure others do as well.
Gracias! :D |

Gracias! :D I hope to have some update for the dinner at Perry's this week. I have verbal confirmation that we can get a larger room for our private dining event, but I'm waiting until I've got a signed contract before I start processing the waitlist for that event. I also have three or four people that have unpaid reservations which are holding spots at several of the capacity controlled events. I'm giving them all through December 16 to get paid up or those spots will be released to the waitlist queue. If you want to be added to the waitlist, let me know and I'll take care of that for you. :) |
