Hey, a good festival deserves a good beer. And they sell a lot of it! (and I'm serious, anyone interested in heading over to the festival, please get in touch. Sunday is a very casual day in the campground, as opposed to the main festival site. Great music on tap, along with the beer)

I see y'all are going out to the Salt Lick on Sunday. If you want to extend the party, just cross the street and check out the end of the wonderful Old Settler's Music Festival.
Music on Sunday is held at Camp Ben McCullough---come out and hear my pal Sam Baker before your lunch....and then come back for Canada's New Country Rehab. You can thank me later....See you there! (at the festival)

The Sunday Do event is at the Salt Lick in Round Rock, not the one in Driftwood. (I suspect the festival is why the Driftwood location decided they wouldn't be able to accommodate us).

And to think I'm an editor. Apologies to all. (But then, when one thinks Salt Lick, they think Driftwood---not RR. Too bad you're too early for baseball in RR!)

I bet you're right. I didn't know anything else was going on down there that weekend but that makes some sense. I wish they would've just told me that; ah well.

FWIW, the Westin has showed up on Starpicks for Friday and Saturday nights at $127 for a 2 Queen Beds room.

... also FWIW,
A-loft still available for 7K SPG, (but not C+P)

Looks like Saturday is sold out. Only Friday night still available.

music?

So, who else is hoping/planning to see some music over the weekend in Austin? And what have you found?

Looking through some listings, here's what I've got:

On Thursday, Blues singer & guitarist extraordinaire Carolyn Wonderland has an early gig (show@8) at Flamingo Cantina. For anyone skipping the Perry's dinner, this could be a good way to start off the evening. It's walking distance to the Gingerman where the group is gathering later in the evening.

Two possibilities on my radar for Friday night.
My top pick is probably Bluesman WC Clark is playing at the Saxon Pub. Or staying downtown, Antone's has Guy Forsyth & Dustin Welch.

I'm not finding too much on Saturday night. Willie Nelson is at the Backyard, but that's a 30 mile drive, and Saturday will be a long day. The Lost Bayou Ramblers are at the Continental Club, for anyone who wants to get their Cajun on.

I'm open to other suggestions as well, especially from anyone who knows any local gems I may not have heard of.

A couple of notes for the party barge:

Pa Kettle and I went out there on Friday to scope out the lay of the land (and figure out where the hell to park a bus). It led to some interesting conclusions.

Firstly, plan to walk a bit from the road down to the lake. This is due to the fact that the gravel driveway leading down toward the lake is unlikely to fit a full sized bus, what with the pesky trees in the way.

Secondly, the lake is very low due to ongoing drought conditions in this part of The Great State of Texas™. As such, the marina we'll be utilizing is significantly further from the paved sidewalk than it would normally be. There is a fairly steep decline along the concrete path, and then a series of sharp rocks and finally a rocky beach that must be navigated to make it to the party barge. While this should be no issue for most people, if your mobility is limited in some way, you may want to think twice about this as there is no handicapped access.

Thirdly, there are no facilities available to us at the marina for the purposes of changing either before or after the boat ride. There are restrooms located in the complex outside of Uncle Billy's should you need to change. Plan accordingly; items can be stored on the bus between events.

Hmmm, by chance you wouldn't happen to have pics of "steep decline" and "sharp rocks", do ya?

Only 9 days to go!

It is very much a swimming lake, almost famuously so. Please note that these lakes are cool even in the heat of a Texas summer, so with the cool nighttime temps that we have been having lately, it might be really cold - ymmv. :-:

However, those Yankees might be used to that kind of stuff...:p

This will get Beck ready for the jump in the Bering sea during the OME DO:D

A question about Austin Beerworks.

A couple of years ago at SEADO, we did the tour of the Redhook brewery. Much drinking was done and most left with a generous buzz. The tour was quite long with a trudge from one station to the next, with a different beer to sample at each stop. And I recall, the total walking distance was somewhere around 50 feet. To make this less painful, glasses could be refilled if someone was "on the fence".

Will we be subjected to this kind of torture again? If so, I will need to buy new walking shoes prior to the tour.:D
