Finally had to make a decision and I'm not going to be able to get there, of all the times for me to get busy with the new biz it's been the past 3 weeks, sods law it's quietened down today.

This was to be my first "do" and I was looking forward to maybe making a few new friends as well as visiting some old ones that live in Dubai. Plus a trip out to the Dragon mall for some cheap stock

Still, there's presumably the annual SIN run next year which I've always missed as well, hopefully by that time I'll have made enough money to travel full time

Did i mention the sand.

Take care

(Actually, are they serious? Drinking alcohol is technically illegal AND they do enforce it in Dubai whenever they want? Confused...)

It's one of those things about Dubai that makes no sense. You can buy at duty free, drink at bars and no one will say anything. But apparently, doing so is not legal.

The best thing to do never confess you were drinking to the police. Easy.

A few years ago, I had been out drinking with a friend who flies for EK at the Irish Village in Garhoud and were stumbling our way back to her apartment just across the old parking lot when we were stopped by a bored UAE policeman in the mood to cause trouble. She is technically Muslim so was smart enough to claim (in Arabic) that she didn't have any ID with her. I was very lucky that I had an old Saudi visa in my passport that gave my religion as Christian (I'm an outstanding Christian - I go to church and I stand outside!), so the police officer gave us a stern warning in Arabic and let us go. I've been a lot more careful since not to step outside of a hotel when even mildly inebriated.

6.06am Singapore...

Dubai Do Here we come. Be at airport in 90-mins, EK433 is up the wazoo oversold so here's hoping the load controller has been nice to me! Although I have no idea where he's going to find seats as every class is chockers.

Rendezvous point tonite is the InterCon Festival City, front bar. You wont miss us.

See you soon....

enjoy your flight.. or NOT, in case you VDB.. actually never had VDB on EK, do they actually do it, or what will they do in this case? Only had it once that it was needed as my plane was having a mechanical and the next plane was quite full, but as Silver back then they put me on the next plane (Don't know what happened to the poor non-status pax)

I wont be VDB'ing. Actually, EK IM and the load controllers do a pretty good job. There were seats in F (about 5 as of yesterday). Golds in J would have been moved forward, they would have then made a decision as to how many they were oversold down the back and looked at their average no-show rate for this sector. They'll then massage the numbers and make it work.

A definitely good start the Dubai DO!
