What's the correct way to go about doing this? I told the automated system that I wanted to close the card and it transferred me to an overly-cheerful U.S. representative that offered to close the card or product change. I said I'd think about it a bit more... Do I need to tell the representative to close the card and then they make the offers? And if they do actually go ahead and close, can I reinstate it?

For Citi strata premier, called for retention yesterday and was offered
1) $95 SC + 1k TYP for $1k spend per month in the next three months 2) 5k TYP for $1k spend in three months 3) 10k TYP for $3k spend in the next six months took second offer because the points per dollar is more than third, but kind of regretting it now since it doesn’t fully offset the annual fee. anyone know if I can call back and change it? I guess I have an Amex biz employee card bonus spend coming soon so it’s fine either way… |

AA Platinum.
Offered $99 annual fee offset if I spend $1k in 3 months. took offer. |
habe a citi premier card with little spending. called 3 times and no offer. oh well

Chat agents (may) have same offers
1st anniversary, Citi AA Personal, very little spend after SUB. No offer. Closed the card.
I tried chat first and the agent there claimed he did have access to retention offers but he was not certain if they were the same as the phone agents. On this account, he saw no offers. I called in and the phone agent also saw no offers but did have an offer to downgrade to MileUp. I think I may just stick with chat for Citi offers in the future. Easier process than waiting on hold on the phone. |
1st anniversary with premier; first time i called there was issues with the transferred rep, couldn't access account. a few days latter called in again transferred rep was just incompetent didn't know what i was saying or wanted. third time i called the front line CS said they couldn't transfer me to the retention department, and said they would call me if eligible for retention offer. Has that happened to anyone else and legit or should i call again in a day or two; also does citi retention department have specific days and hours like amex?

Called in Monday night around 8–10 pm PST to ask about retention with the AF coming up on my Citi Strata Premier. Rep transferred me to the retention department, and they offered me two options:
1. $95 statement credit for 1k spend per month for the next 3 months (forgot if they included 1k TYP with this or not) 2. 10k TYP for 3k total spend in the next 3 months I accepted option 2. As a FYI I have put some of my travel spend on this card over the last 6 months, so maybe that was a factor in getting offers? |
I just wish they would quit telling me that I need to sign up for online banking. When I am chatting from my online banking. :(

Has anyone tried for a prestige retention offer since the addition of the strata elite?

For the past 10+ years I think I've always had retention bonus available on my Prestige card. My spending on the card is about 3x of previous years, and most were on travel agencies. Perhaps their algorithms finally called my bluff. |
