Just received the exact same offer as shown in the data points at the top of the thread on Citi AA Business: (only spend was to meet the bonus a year ago):
3rd rep (after 2 transfers) offered $99 credit after $1k spend in 90 days. AF due next month. Accepted. |
Citi AAdvantage Platinum - Got a free upgrade from the no-fee Gold card last year. Minimal (maybe no) usage in the past year. No retention offer. Downgraded back to no-fee card.
|
Citi Strata Premier- 0 offers (no spend), PC downgrade to double cash
AT&T Access More- lots of spend, offered 10k for $3k spend in 3 months...and 10k for $3k spend in 6 months. I already put that much spend on the card in under 3 months as is, took that. AT&T Citi Double Cash- little spend, 10k for $3k spend in 6 months (16k TYP (10k bonus+ 6k for 2x spend) on $3k spend is pretty solid) Citi Dividend (why not ask)- An additional 2% on all spend, I don't bother with the card Overall I like using the phase "I'm thinking of cancelling" throughout the call because then no one does anything silly to jump the gun. Be sure to probe as needed if they hand you one offer -"is that your best offer"- ask if they have anything for TYPs or whatever you want. I was first offered a 0% balance transfer on the Access More I didn't really want. |
Had a productive call a week or so ago:
Strata Premier - 10k TY pts for $3k spent DC - 2 extra pts per dollar for the next 6 months, up to 35k pts CustomCash - 2 extra pts per dollar for the next 6 months, up to 35k pts I have a lot of expenses this summer, already hit Premier requirement, and almost half-way into hitting max extra points on the DC. CustomCash is going to be last, will try to max out monthly 5x for the next six months for a total of 7 pts / dollar, and would put excess spend for the 3 pts / dollar as needed. Easily got 60k pts extra out of a 20 min phone call. |
P2 AAdvantage Platinum card opened June 15, 2023 and was granted a measly $1500 credit limit which was very difficult for us to work with especially when payments didn't make the credit available right away, but we managed to meet the spend for SUB and then sock drawered the card.
AF posted June 28, 2024 with due date 7/24. Requested by chat in app to convert to the no annual fee version citing non use of card due to low credit limit. Chat rep said my card must have $2k limit to convert and had me submit a request online for the increase which was automatically denied (unsurprisingly). She tried the same from her end but as I expected was denied as well. So I asked her to just close the account and refund the AF. She responded that she sees there's a retention offer but cannot see any details and if I'm interested I can call Citi at the number she provided. Called and went through the unfamiliar auto system until I finally got connected to a rep and repeated myself all over again. Was transferred to retention and was offered the $99 AF credited after spending $1k in 3 months. Declined and the phone rep was also not able to convert my card to the no AF version so he tried hard to push me to keep the card as is by repeatedly citing the (useless to me) benefits that this card has vs the no AF one. I declined to keep the card as is so he offered to convert to Citi Custom Cash with no AF. I had no idea that you could convert an AA card to one from another "family" but I accepted this and the conversion was completed. Total time on call was a frustrating 42+ minutes. |
AT&T Access More: 1) offered 10k for $3k spend in 3 months, 2) 10k for $3k spend in 6 months. Took second offer.
|
AA Platinum - only available option was downgrade to $0 fee card. I took it as I am not utilizing AA currently.
|
Received the following offer today, which I accepted:
Strata Premier: spend $1000 in 3 months to get 5000 TYP AA Platinum: spend $1000 in 3 months to get $99 annual fee back No offer on AA Executive card. |
Citi Thx You Preferred: 2 extra points per dollar up to $17.5k spend for 6 mos.
Citi Dble Cashback : Same offer Citi Dividend: Nothing. |
Two successful retentions this month. I think I've gotten retention offers on both cards pretty much ever year for the last 5 years. In both cases I used the cancelation voice prompt to get directly to the retention team vs navigating through frontline CS first.
CitiBusiness AAdvantage: 7/11/24, $99 statement credit for $99 spend or 7,500 AA miles for $1K spend in 3 months. Card opened May 2019. > $52K spent since 2023 annual fee posted. Accepted the second offer. I had every intention to cancel this year as I had recently upgraded my Barclays Aviator Red to the Silver. Citi Strata Premier: 7/30/24, $95 statement credit + 1K TYP for $1K spend every month for 3 months or 10K TYPE for $3K spend in 6 months. > $2K spent since 2023annual fee posted. Accepted the second offer. I had no intention of canceling. |
Productive call with offers on many cards
I had a productive call. I called the back of my Citi Strata Premier $95 AF card, I selected the option to cancel and I was tranferred to a nice and friendly rep.
Told her I'd like to cancel unless there are some options to offset the fees. She got my point without beating around the bush. Option 1: Spend $1k per month for 3 months and get $100 statement credit Option 2: Spend $3k over the next six months and get 10k points I chose option 2 as there will be less tracking involved. I use this card for groceries (3x), as I don't have any better grocery card. I can finish it in six months without much tracking Then I asked for offers on 1. Citi Thank you Preferred no fee: offered 2x bonus points upto 35k total in next six months. No other offer. Took it as it's basically 3x everyhwhere. 2. Citi Thank you Preferred : same offer as above. Took it. 3. Citi Rewards+: no offer. Kept it open for the annual 10k rebate 4. AT&T Access no fee card: No offer. No upgrade option to the $95 card with more rewards. Product changed to Custom Cash 5. Another AT&T no fee. No offer. No upgrade option to the $95 card with more rewards. Product changed to Custom Cash 6. Dividend card. 2% bonus cash back for the next six months on $15k spend. Gas stations are not that useful for me as my gas spend is < $200 a month. Hopefully Q4 will be useful. Or maybe Q1 2025. I think the combo of Premier, Custom Cash, Double Cash, 3x everywhere with the retention on no fee TYP will work out great. I did not ask for an offer on my 3x Double Cash cards, as I thought I will use the TYP cards as the unbonused category cards. I should have asked about the Double cash as well, because of this data point. Certainly 4x is better than 3x.
