Citi AA plat

annual fee hit

called in, told auto system i wanted to close, then it asked if i was sure, i hung up.

HUCA called in, hit zero, told rep i wanted to cxl cuz fee, offered me only a PC, I said I'd think about it don't do anything

HUCA called in, told auto system i wanted to close, asked if i was sure.... yes.... OK you are cancelled.

Lesson learned is that auto system will cancel you quick! Be careful.

I don't have any AA travel planned right now... I figure another mailer or something will come.

PS I asked the rep if anything else available like if I spend or points or whatever... NO, NO NO

No offense meant to anyone. But I'm continually surprised anyone takes this offer. It involves turning down the $95. So it's like doing an app with a sign up offer of 10K miles, with an AF of $95 after a $3K spend. I don't see any of us applying for that, so why do this offer? edit: No HP of course, so there's that.

2/10/18 - Prestige Offer with around 4k spend last year

Given $50 credit per billing cycle when at least $1,500 is spent, for next 7 billing cycles (up to $350 back) including Current Billing Cycle

I took this option since i have some good spending coming up.

For Others who took up the 50$ Credit Per billing cycle, have a question, when does the $50 Credit applies to the Account? My Statement ended on 02/14/18 and had over 1500 in Purchases, i dont see the Credit Applied.

Welcome to FT!

I have been getting the $50 morning after closing date, although -- on reflection -- the first month it may have taken a few days more.

I chose this option in February. March statement just closed, and $50 credit was automatically posted to reduce my statement charge. No delay, no mystery. So far, so good.

Depending on how you redeem them, 10000 miles might be worth more than $95. If you redeem 25000 miles for a $250 flight, or 100000 miles for a $1000 flight, that's already equivalent to 10000 miles for $100, which is a bit more than $95. So if your flights costs anything more than that, you've gotten a redemption which was higher in value than 10000 files instead of $95.

You may be forgetting that the typical new cards signup bonus is worth way way more than the annual fee (if there is one), and thus even a much smaller bonus may be worth more than an annual fee.

Of course, it also depends on how easily you'll do the $3000 in minimum purchases. and also depends on whether you're planning to apply for any new cards (from anyone) that also require minimum purchases.

And it also depends on how specifically you want only AA miles (as opposed to anything else), and if you there any AA cards you could do the spend on otherwise. For people not getting mailers, aren't there only 2 cards in 2 years (one personal and one business) that they can earn bigger bonuses on? (Yes, there are also Aviator cards from Barclay, but they do not require any minimum spend, so you can't compare to them.) So if someone is in the middle of a 24-month clock on both cards, what else can they do to earn more then 10k AA miles on $3k spend?

Btw, there are tons of people in Aviator threads who are happy to keep an Aviator card that gives them 10k AA miles automatically every year for paying the annual fee. (You can't get an Aviator card with that benefit any more; it's only available on certain US Airways cards that were converted to AA Aviator cards.) Isn't that the same value as this retention promo (except for the need to $3k spend)?

Well, we've been getting a new Aviator every year for many years now. So if some people are happy with only 10K for paying the AF, fine. But we don't want to settle for that. Even settling for Saver Economy, RT TATL would take 6 years at 10K a year. And even then, only if AA doesn't devalue again during that time. As the saying goes: 'Go Big or Stay Home'.
