AA Platinum MC, open 13 months with minimal spend after initial bonus - no offers aside from downgrade or PC
Canceled for a refund of the annual fee |
AA Platinum MC, opened 09/09/17 with sign up bonus of 40k AA miles for $1k spend. Called today 2/14 to cancel, only 2 offers:
#1 . Spend 1k per month for next 9 months, receive additional 1k points each month (9k AA miles total offer for 9k spend) #2 . Spend $150 in eligible purchases during next 3 months, receive 2 admiral passes (passes arrive 6-8 weeks after meeting requirement, usually good for 6 months). Kept card open, did not pick an offer (wanted "mull it over" before choosing. Hoping for better offer on next call). |
My annual fee for my AA Platinum MC posted on February 2nd. How long do I have to cancel in order to receive my a refund of the annual fee?

The Cit AT&T Access card has no AF and earns 2x on certain online purchases. The Citi AT&T Access More card does have an AF of $95 and earns 3x on same. |

2/19/18- Citi Executive- Offered $250 credit for 3K of spending in each of the next 3 months. Accepted. I like this card for the EQMs.

2/19/18- Prestige offer, starting third year with card, had 31k spend last year:
1. $200 credit- spend $4,000 a month for 3 months. 1.67 cents per dollar spent 2. $50 credit per billing cycle when at least $1,500 is spent, for next 7 billing cycles (up to $350 back). 3.33 cents per dollar spent 3. 10,000 TYP for $3,000 in purchases, don't remember time frame (I think 6 months). 3.33 TYP per dollar spent Chose option 2. Last year I picked option 1 (other options were not the same, and it worked) but 12k spend in 3 months can be a challenge. Options 2 and 3 have a similar return (if you consider TYP worth more than a penny option 3 has best return) but I like the flexibility of 2 along with opportunity for greater return ($350 is much better than 10,000 TYP). |
2/10/18 - Prestige Offer with around 4k spend last year
Given $50 credit per billing cycle when at least $1,500 is spent, for next 7 billing cycles (up to $350 back) including Current Billing Cycle I took this option since i have some good spending coming up. For Others who took up the 50$ Credit Per billing cycle, have a question, when does the $50 Credit applies to the Account? My Statement ended on 02/14/18 and had over 1500 in Purchases, i dont see the Credit Applied. |

Interesting...I just called in and they didn't offer me any credits this time. Normally get the above offer, although I've done so for 2 straight years. If you don't use the EQMs, and you get lounge access through other means...what's the value of the card? I have a Citi Presitge, CSP Reserve and Amex Platinum....seems like the Citi Executive card is weakest of the 4.

Although I haven't needed the EQM's, I dont want to give up the card, just in case. That is the biggest reason I keep this card,
Seems to me the cost/benefit ratio is way out of whack, especially past the first year. Besides which, won't Citi give you another one at any point, just without a signup bonus? And there is no bonus that I know of when renewing the card. Unless you spend huge amounts on AA tickets, where the 2 miles per $ would eventually add up, or would otherwise pay for an Admirals Club membership, I don't see the point. A simple AA plat card will get you free bags and preferred boarding for far less cost. |
