Citi retention offers (2018 - 2021)

1/4/18: Two admirals club one day passes for $150 spend over 3 months. Declined and closed.

PP212 Jan 8, 2018 12:30 pm

AA Platinum

Was offered $95 credit or 7500 miles for $1000 spend in 3 months. Took the credit. I also had to call in a few times because I got cut off from the retention dept the first couple times I was transferred over for some reason.

miuk Jan 10, 2018 11:09 am

AA Platinum

Called yesterday for the Citi AA Platinum Select, below are the options presented:
1) 7500 miles after $1000 spend within 3 months
2) $95 after $1000 spend within 3 months
3) $50 after $50 spend

greathummer7 Jan 10, 2018 12:27 pm

Citi Prestige

1/3/2018: 1. $50 statement credit per billing cycle when spending over $1500 for the next 7 billing cycles; 2. earn 1 addition points up to 50k in 6 months; 3. 1 additional point on dining purchases up to 10k in 6 months.
Took option 1 & kept the card.

ACK1 Jan 10, 2018 12:49 pm

12.20.2017 Citi Prestige $50 statement credit of $50 for each of the next 6 billing cycles with spend of atleast $1500 or $200 one time statement credit for spending $3000 over 3 months.

htj Jan 10, 2018 4:51 pm

AA platinum, called to cancel unless there were any promos. He didn't have any. He processed the cancellation without much effort to keep me.

I still have the barclays AA card, so this citi one was redundant. i was only going to keep it if they made it free w/ minimal effort.

AbyssalLoris Jan 12, 2018 11:53 pm

I don't see many Citi Premier data points here (mostly Prestige and AA plat), so here's one from my effort today:

$95 credit for spending $95 in the 3 billing cycles including current cycle (I hope I got this right, but will spend more just in case I mis-heard). In addition, 1000 TYP for each cycle I spend $1000 in over the next 16 cycles. Overall, a pretty strong offer, I thought. Annual spending on this card was probably like $13k.

IkeEsq Jan 14, 2018 6:31 pm

Called to close a three-month-old AA Platinum card. Was offered $25 statement credit for spending $500 in next three months. Honestly did not even expect an offer. I asked about Admirals Club passes but no such option.

MfromL Jan 16, 2018 3:52 pm

Called, got the $95 credit offer after 1000 in purchases within 3 months and took it. No fee for a second year.

bornbusy Jan 17, 2018 10:19 am

My wife called Citi last night about her AA Plat. Called three times, no offers other than downgrade to no fee AA card. Ended up switching to Double Cash. Very little spend in 2017.

gnomey Jan 17, 2018 12:16 pm

Is the Citi retention dept only open during office hours (M-F 9-5)? Or can you also call after hours to reach them?

bodiddely Jan 17, 2018 5:24 pm

Citi Exec, 2nd renewal (3rd retention offer as I got a spending offer with a statement credit for full annual fee shortly after opening in 12/2015) - offered $250 statement credit for spending $3k/month for each of next 3 months. Accepted - was also offered and accepted this last year. A few other options were also given, can't remember exact details but they had lesser spending requirements and one offer would have given a $100 statement credit and 5000 AAdvantage miles, third offer was for just 15,000 miles and no SC.

For what card? Your post is not helpful unless you provide this information.

$95 after $1K in 3 is almost certainly the Platinum AA card, which is why the OP didn't feel the need to specify. ;)

nestafaria Jan 18, 2018 7:29 am

Citi Premier, called and asked to cancel since fee is coming up. Offered $95 statement credit after $95 in spend, and then for 16 billing cycles every cycle I spend at least $1000 i'll get an extra 1000 TYP. Accepted and this card will see some spend -- it's barely used now.

linglingfool Jan 18, 2018 9:42 pm

AA Plat, offered the usual $95 for $1k. Last year was $95 for $95, but still can't complain. Total spending last 12mo was <1k.

slivrflyr Jan 19, 2018 9:51 pm

Prestige offer:

1/ $200 SC if I spend $4000 every month for three months
2/ $50 statement credit each month where I spend $1500 or more, up to 7 months in a row
3/ 10,000 TYP after spending $3,000 in six months

Took offer 3.

valuetactics Jan 19, 2018 10:02 pm

Citi Thank You Premier. My second year attempting retention on this card (got offer the first year too.) $4100 put on the card since last AF was credited. Called more than 30 days after AF had posted, with no use on the card since AF.

I was given three options:
  • $50 credit after 5x $10 spends in the next 3 months
  • $95 credit after $3000 spend in next 3 months
  • $95 credit and 1000 TY pts after $1000 spend each of the next three months
Took the third option, stacked it with 2 other promotions to breath new life into this card for the next three months! (I didn't want to reset the TY timer before giving the Prestige another year to get an elevated bonus offer.)

PlyrStar93 Jan 20, 2018 2:22 pm

Since the annual fee of my Citi ThankYou Premier card is about to hit, I called in to see if there are offers available. I was given:
  • $95 statement credit after spending $95 in one of the next two billing cycles
  • 500 bonus ThankYou points each billing cycle, for spending $500 or more during each of the next 16 billing cycles
Specialist was able to add both offers at the same time, so I gladly took them.

They’re open weekends and evenings, not sure exactly what the hours are though. Last time I called it was around 10PM on Sunday.

No luck on retention, citi Premier

I just did the same thing, since my statement just showed up. I called, but they wouldn't give any offers and closed the card. I did talk to an agent first, mentioned my consideration, she asked if I wanted to close, and I said I was concerned about points, but said I also had a Prestige card. Offered to combine point, and then close the Premier acct. Oh well - wasn't much advantage to having that card vs Prestige

The points earned with the Premier card will nonetheless expire in 60 days :

Great thanks - easier to make phone calls for me then.

For the 7 month retention offer on the Prestige, if you miss a month, does that end the gravy train or can you pick it up again after that? It looks like I'm going to miss it this month but it's month 6 of 7, so not the end of the world. Just curious if I should try next month in month 7.

Premier Retention Offer-Nothing

One year old Premier account with little spend. CSR said no offers shown for this card. I’ll try back before fee is due but otherwise I’ll transfer TYPs and close. I have other cards that equal or exceed all benfits with Premier, except entertainment, which has a thin edge at 2x. I may close Prestige also to get 2 year clock running on both.

wlp07 Jan 25, 2018 11:55 am

Citi AA Personal Plat:AF just posted. Only offer was 0% APR on new purchases until August. No spend beyond what was required for the signup bonus. Offer was made by front-line rep, with no attempt to transfer to a retentions department. Closed it down.

East Coast Globetrotter Jan 25, 2018 3:19 pm

Citi AA Personal Plat Select: AF hits next month (had card for 12 months) called to ask for offers, none available. Asked can I speak to retention, "you don't qualify", asked for clarification on what that meant "you haven't spent enough on the card" (only did minimum spend last year). Asked to transfer credit line to another card, "we don't do that anymore. You'll need to close the card and after the statement goes by and your debt to income ratio changes you can reapply for a different card to regain the credit line... I'm sorry, I feel like I haven't been that much help to you." I chuckled and said thanks.

Needless to say I'll HUACA later.

AA Platinum (personal) Retention Offer

1/22/2018 Only 1 retention Offer AA Platinum (personal): Spend 1K in 3-months get $95 Credit. Have card for 2 years. Last year spend was $1,300.

mary mary Jan 26, 2018 3:50 pm

Thank You Premier card. Second renewal. ~4-5K spend in last year. Was given a $95 statement credit after spending 3K in 3 months. Was also given the option of $95 credit plus 1000 thank you points for 1K spend in each of the next 3 months. The latter option would have required more thought and tracking on my part so I took the $95 statement credit for 3K spending.

MahiMahi524 Jan 27, 2018 11:30 am

Got offered 2 Admirals Club passes on my AA business card for spending $150 within 3 months. Passes supposedly arrive 1-2 billing cycles after the purchases made.

Anyone know how quickly the retention Admirals Club passes actually get sent out? Have a trip coming up in a couple months and would like to use the passes then. (Don't want to have them arrive too late like my Business Extra upgrade did for my transcon trip.)

Can skip one or more months and continue to earn the $50/mo until the seventh consecutive month from the first.

lds89 Jan 31, 2018 6:14 pm

Just called the Prestige card to cancel - as I've switched to the CSR. Retention offer was $50 statement credit on $1,500 monthly purchases for 7 consecutive months to get back to the $350

Went ahead and closed the card

silvershrimp Feb 1, 2018 8:18 am

AA Platinum Select

No fee waiver or miles offer. Rep offered to downgrade to AA Bronze or Double Cash. I went with Double Cash.

I opened the card in 2015 and received statement credits for the past 2 years.

Julie17 Feb 1, 2018 6:03 pm

1. Citi Prestige; 2nd anniversary; around $14,000 spend in 2017. Offered and accepted a $50 statement credit in each of the next 7 billing cycles in which I spend $1500. Also offered some of the alternatives others have listed but did not write them down.

2. Citi Premier; 2nd anniversary; no offers 1st anniversary; only around $300 spend in 2017. Offered and accepted a $95 statement credit after spending $95 within next two billing cycles, plus 500 bonus TY points each billing cycle, for spending $500 or more during each of the next 16 billing cycles.

3. DH's Citi Premier; 2nd anniversary; no offers 1st anniversary; around $1100 spend in 2017. No offers. Kept open so as not to reset the 24 mo clock in hopes of getting a Prestige when/if it has a bonus again.

Also asked about Dividend and Costco cards; no offers aside from promotional interest rates.

jbb93 Feb 5, 2018 7:34 am

TY Premier- $95 credit for $95 spend in each of the next 3 billing cycles, plus 500 bonus TYP per month of $500 spend for next 16 billing cycles. Accepted.

staticx813 Feb 10, 2018 7:53 am

called for citi prestige: i had four offers, 2nd retention offer, 3rd year card. ~1k spend
  • $50 statement credit per billing cycle when spending over $1500 for the next 7 billing cycles - OR -
  • 1 extra TY point per dollar up to $50k purchases - OR
  • 10k TY points after $3k spend within 6 months.
  • $200 one-time statement credit after spending $4000 in EACH of the next 3 months

You've gotta wonder who is coming up with these because between options 1 and 4, 1 results in a $350 credit for min $10,500 in spend, but 4 is a $200 credit for min $12,000 in spend.

Also it's important to realize that Citi can't count. I accepted retention offer number 1 in August. Last month I spent like $400 and still got the $50 credit. Like, what?

flyerlge Feb 11, 2018 9:53 am

AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard.

Called on 11-FEB-2018.

Three offers made.

1) $95 credit after $95 spend within 1 month
2) 10,000 Miles after $3000 spend within 3 months
3) 7,500 miles after $1000 spend within 3 months

The initial offer was the $95 credit. Asked if they had more, at which point they came back with number two. Asked if any more and they came back with number 3. And that was it for available offers.
