As i stated above -- it appears that citi has pushed back on retention offers for Prestige....it never took any work before this year to get a retention offer for prestige

AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard. No activity on card for 2 years.

Called on 25-APR-2018.

No offer made. Offered to change to Bronze. Repeated requests for a retention agent denied. Time was 11:30 PM Eastern.

AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite MasterCard. Opened last Oct, did min spnd by mid-Nov, nothing more since then.

Tried to cancel it, but failed. Figured it would be easy peasy, just tell the computer "CANCEL", and that would be that. But no, they transferred me over to a rep. CSR pointed out I would get a 10% rebate on my trip this Summer if I kept it open. Told her I have another one, (actually have 6 in hand, and one in the mail, but I didn't mention that). :-)

She offered me 7,500 miles for $1K spend in 3 months, which means an extra trip to CVS and @$14 in fees. Since I've met the min spnd on all of our cards for both myself and DW, (except for the ones in the mail), I fell for it. Did the math later and realized that if I can get 15K miles for free from just SMing asking for it on each mailer app, $14 for half that amount isn't such a great deal. But since I said yes, I guess I'll do it.

Then I do have to cancel it, since I have 9 Citi cards open, and one coming in the mail, and despite having lowered most of them to $2K, still all the underwriter would give me on the upcoming AA card was $1500. :( Clearly 10 open Citi cards is way too many....

Citi AA Platinum Select. Have had card opened 10+ years, but spend $0 in past year due to having Citi AA Executive World Elite.

Rep offered $95 credit for $1k in spend over 3 months. Cited 10% mileage bonus and upcoming 2x bonus miles offers. I asked if they also still had $95 credit and 1k/month bonus mile offer, but agent said that was not available currently.

AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite MasterCard. Opened in 2011. Called March 26. No retention offer was made. Cancelled.

I still have the AAdvantage Platinum Select American Express.

TYP Premier, Opened 2015, annual fee hit last month, called today April 30th. Very little spend on this card over the last year.

Offered $95 credit after spending $95 in 2 billing cycles + 500 TYP for $500/month spend for 16 months. Took it. I have 90k TYP that I don't have immediate plans for so didn't want to feel rushed to transfer/make use of them so this was a pretty good outcome.

Citi Executive AA - the standard $1500 spend per month for $50/month 7 months. This is why I keep the card open - its a fair deal for me and Citi I think - I use the card for a year (typically 1500 average over 12 months) and get Admirals for essentially $100/year. 3rd or 4th year doing it now.

CitiBusiness/ AAdvantage Platinum Select World Mastercard:

2 year member, AF posted 3/28, called with full intention to cancel. offered $95 SC after $95 spend. My annual spend last year was <3K

Citi AA Plat Select MC. Open 1 year with minimal spend beyond initial $3k purchase target. Called to cancel when AF posted, no offers, cancelled it.

I've spent several thousand on the TYP Premier card in the past year (mostly hotels and gas and parking for 3x), and opened in 2016, and I got the same offer yesterday (my annual fee hit earlier in the week) and took the offer for the same reason.

I haven't seen anyone post getting any different offer on the Premier for months, so I was pretty much expecting this offer.

Got this offer and took it as well for my premier.

Other offer I had was 5,000 TYP after $2000 spend.

I'm a pretty big fan of the premier card and use it as my daily spend. Similar to the others, I have 77k points. I burned 62.5k on an AF ticket recently.

How should I approach requesting a retention for the Cit Thank You Premier if I haven't used it in about 9 months? Am I less likely to get a retention offer since I don't use this card?

I'm trying to figure out a way to keep my points but not pay the annual fee.
