Which websites qualify for 3X points?

3 ThankYou Points for each $1 spent on purchases made at eligible retail (including department store websites, specialty store websites, warehouse store websites and boutique websites) and travel websites (including online travel agencies, and hotel and airline websites).

3 ThankYou Points for each $1 spent on products and services purchased directly from AT&T, including payment of monthly phone, cable or internet bills.

You'll earn an Anniversary Bonus of 10,000 ThankYou Points after you spend $10,000 in purchases in the prior cardmembership year.

Special note about eBay and PayPal - varies widely as to whether the bonus points are awarded. It seems to vary depending on merchant with no real discernible pattern.

Certain Non-Qualifying Purchases. You won’t earn 3X Points for purchases of and payments for medical services, insurance, taxes and government services, real estate, real estate rentals, purchases or reloading of prepaid or gift cards, education, charities and utilities.
You won’t earn 3X Points for purchases from independent wireless dealers, non-AT&T-owned stores, or AT&T resellers unless you are paying for an AT&T service, such as your phone, cable or internet.
(Effective 9/22/2019)

All payments coding as online are hit and miss. Sometimes it codes as online, sometimes it doesn't. YMMV.

Citi AT&T Access More card (Discontinued)

Customers who apply and are approved for the card will receive a link to a specific website where they can use the new card to buy an iPhone or Android smartphone. They will receive a credit for the purchase up to $650 as long as they spend $2,000 on the card in the first three months.

Customers who receive the new smartphone must also have AT&T wireless service. The card carries no interest rate on AT&T purchases for the first seven months. After that, interest rates will range between 14.99% and 22.99% for all purchases, based on creditworthiness. The annual fee is $95.

Sounds like a decent sign-up bonus, but it will be interesting to see what the long-term perks are. Probably something like 3x points on AT&T products/services which can be redeemed for statement credits or put towards a new phone purchase.

The card is already on Citi's website:

  • Earn 3X ThankYou® Points for every $1 you spend on purchases made online at retail and travel websites.
  • Earn 3X points for every $1 you spend on products & services directly purchased from AT&T.
  • Earn 1X points for every $1 you spend on other purchases.
  • 10,000 Anniversary bonus points after you spend $10,000 in the prior cardmembership year.

There is also a free version of the card discussed in this thread:

My wife and I will be getting new phones in the next 30-45 days. Has anybody seen if the pricing is it the same as AT&T's website? Also do current current AT&T wireless customers get the bonus as long as they stay 15 days or would you have to open a new account?
We've got $3500 spend we're holding off, but can do it any time and with the $650X2 that's more than enough for a card for each of us. Just been waiting for a great bonus to make spend worth while. I would consider $555 net good-great.

This is the only thing that worries me? It doesn't say new service and you do have to activate it to use it?
"Make your phone purchase using your unique phone offer link (which will be provided to you), activate and maintain service with AT&T for 15 days. If you buy a new phone now it will count toward the $2,000 in qualifying purchases!"

I'm intrigued. We must thank the guinea pigs who will apply and then share the phone selection and pricing (I'm assuming the phones will be identical to the ones AT&T currently sell) and details regarding how long we need to use their service before unlocking and bailing to our previous provider. Hopefully this will still be around when iPhone 6s comes out in September.

This offer looks really interesting. It looks like AT&T's cheapest smartphone plan is $45/month, so with Citi's requirement to maintain AT&T service for 15 days you'd be looking at around $25-27 of service (after factoring in taxes and fees) to get the credit. It's not clear to me if AT&T will let you SIM unlock the phone immediately (some parts of their site mention that your account must be active for 60 days before they'll give you an unlock code), but even if they won't you're only looking at another $20-30 to buy an unlock code online.

I was planning to do another round of applications in a few days and now I'm really thinking about this card, as I'm in the market for a new phone.

What seems intriguing is the 3 x for online purchases, which is very appealing. Question: If you have this new card and earn TY points, are these also transferable to airlines/partners as long as you have one of the premium cards such as premier, prestige, or chairman?

Hmm, the credit can only be used toward full priced phones, not contract ones...

But the 3x on retail websites is tempting, as is the 10K bonus each year for spending 10K.

I think that's a good thing. You will pay less per month in monthly fees and won't get locked into a 2 year contract. Unlock the phone, disconnect the service and move to another cheaper carrier.

Or just use this card to sell the phone on craigslist...

Similar (2X) feature is also offered on the free version of the card, but read the rules. It is not 3X points for all online purchases, there are many exceptions. If you link this card to the same ThankYou Rewards account as a Premier or Prestige card the points should be treated the same as points earned with those cards.

Retail websites are websites that sell goods directly to the consumer through an online website and include department store websites, specialty store websites, warehouse store websites and boutique websites. Travel websites are websites that allow you to book travel and include online travel agencies, hotel websites and airline websites.

We do not determine how merchants or establishments are classified; however, they are generally classified based upon the merchant?s primary line of business. We reserve the right to determine which purchases qualify for this offer. Purchases not eligible to receive the additional ThankYou Points include but are not limited to payment for or to medical services, insurance, taxes and government services, education, charities and utilities.

I'm an existing AT&T wireless customer and never had this card. Do I have to open another account to activate the phone?

You should be able to get it unlocked if not, as locking is only based on a contract phone.

Read the general eligibility requirements:

Devices may qualify for unlocking if they meet the following requirements:

The device must be designed for use on, and locked to, the AT&T wireless network. For help see Device Unlock Support.
It must not be reported lost or stolen.
It's not associated with fraudulent activity.
All the device's service commitments and installment plans are completed, and all early termination fees are paid in full.
The device is not currently active on a different AT&T customer's account.
If you performed an early upgrade, you must wait the 14-day buyer's remorse period before you can request to unlock your previous device.
