The Green Beret's commanders will review the case and decide whether to take any disciplinary action, said Lt. Col. Tom Bryant, a spokesman for the Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg.

"There's a number of options for the commander to take, ranging from a letter of reprimand to a court martial," Bryant said. "They'll look at all the facts surrounding the incident."
The LOR would be enough to dead-end him.

No offense, but this really is a big, fresh, steaming pile of bull...

Any ordinary Joe who just happens to have smoke grenades and C-4 and shows up anywhere NEAR an airport is looking at DECADES of prison time, but since he's a "good guy", it's no big whoop.

Because we all know "Good Guys" don't do bad things, right Maj. Hassan?

Niether TSA or the Army wants to have to explain how 2-5 pounds of C4 went unaccounted for and not discovered during screening.

I think that is the bigger picture issue.

From the link posted:

Airport screeners apparently failed to detect the C-4 on the outbound flight to his hometown of Midland.

U.S. Attorney Robert Pitman told Reuters an extensive investigation by the FBI revealed that the explosive, widely used in demolition and urban combat missions in Afghanistan, was inserted into the backpack when Atwater was on active duty in that country.

Pitman said Atwater, who has served three tours of duty in Afghanistan with the Army Special Forces, had apparently forgotten the C-4 was there when he grabbed the backpack out of the garage of his home in North Carolina.
Still radio silence from the TSA? It seems pretty certain that TSA missed pounds of C-4 on his outbound flight.

Heads turned sideway, looking the other way, "blue" wall of silence" or whatever - so, what else is NEW, not a surprise at all.

... Retraining has been done ... safeguards have been implemented ... procedures & protocols have been updated - "scripts" that'll cited for them

Being "members of services" (MOS) has its privileges - especially in uniforms, a retired friend of mine said last week, just flashed the proper ID & they will and do taken care of "their" own ...

"This We'll Defend" being the Motto.

Meanwhile, on another thread, we've got a guy who spent nearly two weeks in jail. CBP busted him for not having the proper piece of paper signed off when he left service (AWOL more than once) years ago. He came from a crap background, seems to have turned his life around; the missing piece of paper was something that personnel should have given him to sign but didn't. But hey, he kind of deserved it, because unlike this guy, he wasn't a 'Good Guy'. Everyone knows that once you're labelled, you're labelled for life.

(Kind of like TSA's 'one background check, good for life/term of employment). 'Good Guys' should always get a pass, 'Bad Guys' should always get the book thrown at them.

Federal charges dismissed - he's been a good soldier, no reason to believe he had bad intentions.

Still no discussion of how it got through the Fayetteville airport in a bag that was pulled and searched.
Bolding mine: And the TSA will never tell us because simply put, they screwed up.

If TSA were honest, the announcement would be: "All 21 layers of security failed at Fayetteville, but at no time was the safety of the travelling public in jeopardy because we just got lucky and this guy wasn't trying to cause trouble."
