This is a pilot program in BOS that started today. It is expected to roll out to LAX in the next month. Modeled on El Al.

I'm not a fan of TSA, but if it keeps us safe, it is worth it, and if modeled after El Al hard to argue their success in passenger safety.

About damn time they are modeling after El Al's security. Its only been what 11 years?

I have mixed views on this one. I've been grilled by Israeli security at TLV while departing with a Saudi visa in my passport. It was done very respectfully, and I understood the need for security. After that, the WTMD and X-ray for my bag were super easy. However, this is conditioned on well-trained agents doing the questioning in a professional manner. I don't have confidence that the TSA can carry things out in that manner, and there is a bit of an issue of whether it's even constitutional in the US.

Safe? SO, if the TSA officer doesn't like your answer he/she can at their sole discretion decide that you need to be ejected, detained, incarcerated, GITTMOED?

Why not legislating 'travel authorization permits' for DHS approval, before you can leave your house, city, state?

"Oh your leaving for vacation, let's see I have your home address right here" I'll call my buddies and we'll 'secure' all your home's belongings while you're way.

FEEL SAFER NOW?

Feel free to drive. If we can get more effective security measures in place that actually are aimed at identifying problems I'm all for it. Much better than invasive pat downs of toddlers.

Yep I'm kool with it. They quiz you all the time in AMS & CDG before you fly home. Get your GOES and then you can just point to the sticker on the back of your passport and they will see you are a trusted traveler. Worth the $100!:-:

Um, this is like the ONLY thing that the TSA has done that I actually agree with and can make a difference... assuming the agents are properly trained. Thats the big IF.

Its called behavioral profiling and is the most effective way to catch someone who has intent do something. A trained people can spot certain actions that are common among someone trying to hide something. I'd much much much rather answer a couple questions than go through the useless nude-o-scope xray scanners.

In addition to name and destination they asked about length of stay in BOS, reason for the visit, name of the company he works for and type of work he does.

I can certainly understand your point of view and your concerns.

If you had authority over airport security checkpoints, how would you design the system so that security is effective and yet the rights of passengers are preserved?

I guess if you have never traveled to canada, let alone europe or other destinations (lets set aside those that require visas, proof of departure and letters of invite), not to mention entering a public or private facility that requires check in questions (e.g. who are you, drivers licenses, who are you here to see, where do you work, what is in your bag, serial numbers, etc), I guess this new procedure could be troubling or fear of the unknown.

If you have traveled europe or elsewhere in the world then you know the game, and these TSA questions are not that intrusive. In fact, IMHO the only thing intrusive are making the comparisons between them and ElAl type security from which I have heard, is a very much apples to oranges comparison.

Now when they want to know about my bank accounts, credit card numbers, or other true private information simply smile at them and say, well, go and look in your computer, you have it in there somewhere already dont you?

Keep in mind, if you dont like TSA on planes, try the TSA on a train, bus or private limo service if you are not comfortable with disclosing such basic info. OTOH, if you dont like the questioning, than TSA should setup a seperate line for additional screening, of course, if you do volunteer for the questions, you should be allowed to be expedited through the process. Concur though, keep to basic info that anyone should be able to rattle off even during an ambian induced red eye semicoma, after all, isnt that what they are really looking or checking for?
