A two-striper mans each new podium (one man, one woman). woman in a business suit and a slovenly shirt-and-tied large gentleman rove between the questioning stations. The line is moving quickly, so I can't overhear too many conversations before I get past the first station. Basically all I can hear from the male BDO is him introducing himself with his full name and stating he'll be asking questions.

I get selected to see the woman interrogator. The process starts wth a full ID and BP check (this jus happened less than 20 seconds ago). She, in a pleasant enough demeanor, asks how I pronounce my last name. I answer qith my standard quip which usually gets a laugh (yep, t's really Tkey, but spelled nothing at all like that, so I like to make light of it in any scenario). The second question is what my destination is. She just read it, so I answer correctly. Next is the purpose of my trip. I know it's rude, but this is when I answer her question with a question. I ask if there's ay modified screening for answering. Perhaps a little flummoxed, she asks me to restate my question. I tell her that this new security feature has been in the news and I was wondering if, morespecifically, compliant pax could avoid the AIT, for example, for answering questions. She stated she had no idea as this is just a pilot progra and "they" don't tell her anything.

I had some follow-up questions prepared, but right then, the interrogation was over and I was sent on my way without any further words. I put my bags on the belt and executed a perfect SDOO. Total waste of time, less than five minutes.
Tkey, with this new set up, is it still possible to self select lanes? I know you said you had a successful SDOO, but did you have a choice of all the open lanes, or did the new set up limit your options? (Also, was this terminal A?)

No extra questions at BOS Term B - AA side this morning. Lots of TSOs standing near the TDC but all of them were busy chatting amongst themselves. In fact, one old man walked right by the TDC and he attempted to call the man back. He told a group of 3 TSOs standing around chatting to stop the man. All he got was a "huh!?!" and a second attempt to stop the man was attempted with the same response. At that point the TDC went, "whatever" and continued checking IDs. On a positive note, almost all lanes were open and only one has the scanners. Literally took less than 2 minutes to go landside to airside.

No, no need to sit in the penalty box. It's pretty much true.

Yes, terminal A. You can still select your own lane. The secondary ID check/interrogation podium is about ten feet after the preliminary one and about 10 feet before you go through the large doorway to the actual WTMD/NoS lanes. It's more or less the same setup as the pre-interrogation security setup where if you choose the elite ID check lane you end up going through the door on the right and most people in the regular ID check line end up going through the door on the left.

Most of my SDOO's, especially a BOS for some reason, are a result of me unwaveringly staring down the clerk manning the WTMD until he/she waves me through it.

Eye contact with the TSO manning the WTMD and lack of eye contact with the TSO directing people into the BKSX has always worked well for me, unless the WTMD is roped off.

Another podium? Double the podiums?

Find the ex-DHS official with a consulting contract with the podium maker and we have found the source of this nuisance.

Sure.

Oh, you're still here. ... No, I can't explain it.

Your call is important to us. Please stay on the line, and any minute now, John P or Janet or one of our local TSA apologists will be happy to explain it to you. Something about "9/11" and "layers" and "abundance of caution" and "sensitive and respectful"...

I've asked the same in a different matter in other threads...and how can you be LEGALLY prevented from flying or put on a list for refusing an interrogation? Any of our real attorneys (IANAL's need not chime in) care to comment?

Not answering subjects the person to a thorough screening.

Opting Out subjects the person to a thorough screening.

Calling TSA a bunch of blithering idiots subjects a the person to ......?

Tsa rant - new procedure

BOS>ATL>JAX

Today as I queued, for the bottle water collection point, I was stopped and asked my final destination, reason I was in BOS, how long I was there, what company I worked for, type of work I did.

THIS IS TOTAL UNACCEPTABLE!!!

I bought a ticket, entered my traveler info, presented my identification.

FLAMERS WELCOMED!

The rest of where, what, why and length of my rights of FREEDOM to MOVEMENT is none I repeat NONE of TSA, i.e. (KGB,SS, and Gestapo)'s @#$!$@@ BUSINESS!
