Even if your not traveling that day you can participate, just buy a refundable plane ticket for the day, opt out and then leave. Nice thing about this is that you can take as much time as you care to as missing your flight has no impact.
Once your done with the protest drive home and call the airline for a refund. You can even tell them it was because of the TSA.

The poll results should get the airlines' attention. When asked whether they would choose the scanner, the grope or not to fly, 44.7% chose "Neither, I won't fly"
On another note, I added information regarding National Opt Out Day to the home page of tsa.gov using Google's sidewiki tool. If you are not familiar with sidewiki, it allows you to add "helpful information" to websites you visit. I posted about this in the Organized resistance thread a few eeks ago, but it doesn't look like anyone else has "added helpful information" to the TSA website. Possibly I should start a separate thread about this... Please download the tool from Google and add additional comments to the existing sidewikis - and if you wish, to other pages.

Although this reference was not about air travel, I noticed that Michael Gargulio (sp?) on the early morning news, Channel 4, in NYC, used the term "opt out" when talking about the now-defunct Hudson River rail tunnel.
Was he trying to send a message? If so,

Every passenger should opt out of the irradiating process. Of course that won't happen but, if it did, even for a day or two, how long would these machines remain in place?
As some have mentioned, who can possibly believe that these X ray machines will be properly calibrated? Hospitals work hard at maintaing the proper dose of their equipment, operated by technicians trained to do so, often unsuccessfully. Google "calibrate" and CT scans or X ray machines. Not only will you find many articles but, a host of law firm adverts describing the dangers and injuries. Will the same happen with these machines? Unlikely, but with these machines you can be exposed dozens of times. For FF it can be dozens of times per year. Yet, the TSA is giving these very sophisticated and sensitive machines to the most poorly trained and poorly paid among us? The testing data, both long term and short term, is non existent. Sure, no concerns there.
However, on whether passengers really will opt out, it seems polls show that the majority of passengers are Ok with the machines. Is that because they simply don't know much about them, haven't seem them in action yet, are simply ignorant and will do anything in the name of "security?" Its unclear, but obviously frustrating. It seems most folks are happy to get doused with radiation because the TSA says its necessary.

They asked me to go on American Morning, but I couldn't - scheduling conflict. Still absolutely amazed at the response! The people's voice is being heard! Be sure to write your members of congress and the airlines - keep the pressure on them!

Sir,
You have no right to molest children or single out individuals for arbitrary searches. If your financial well-being is dependent on what amounts, essentially, to sexual battery and psychological harassment then I am profoundly sorry for you that you are so desperate.
I assume you aren't among the pedophiles, perverts, thieves and bullies that are typical of TSA agents with that statement.

As much as I like the mall...I much rather stick to shopping there vs. working there......oh btw thank you for contributing to my salary.
Your "security fee" that is paid by you when you purchase a ticket helped me furnish my living room and for that I thank you....lol

And that tells me everything I need to know about your character. I cannot understand why somebody would choose to work for a government agency that so blatantly violates the word and spirit of the constituion. TSA's exceedances remind me of the abuses of the BATF in the 70s.
