FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: mia
This thread covers how to use Ultimate Reward Points for booking all types of travel via the Ultimate Rewards portal.

1) How do I book a ticket? Choose my airfare class?
Login to ultimaterewards.com
Click: Use points > Explore and Book Travel
Click the button that defaults to [1 Traveler, All]
Change "Class" (the first entry in the pull-down) from All to Business
Click: Close

2) How far in advance can I book?
In mid-November 2017 it was reported that airline reservations are available only 270 days in advance. Read HERE.

3) How do I book hotels?
Follow the steps above to log on. There are standard looking search engines offered for airfare, hotel, etc at that point.

4) How do I get the better redemption rate offered on some Chase cards?
The upper left corner of the UR page will show you which card you are logged in with. If you hold a Chase Sapphire Reserve card, you will be shown a better price on points bookings, as a 1.5 redemption rate is offered as one of the benefits of this card. If you log in to the UR portal from a different UR card, such as the Ink, you will not be offered this rate.

5) Where else can I find information?

This thread is a consolidated resource which covers topics including:

Fare buckets, here
Price differences between open market air fares and UR bookings, here
Selecting seat classes
Using cash and points to pay for tickets

and more.

Has anyone been able to book basic economy for united via chase recently?
And I have the opposite complaint being a Delta flyer On a lot of trips I want to take on Delta only E fares come up and I refuse to fly E fares.

Personally I would much rather the UR portal NOT showing the Basic Economy fares so to avoid any accidental mistakes from the users.
It is quite annoying to sift thru the offerings so to make sure not to accidentally buy the Basic Economy which on a longer distance often are not meaningful cheaper than the normal fares but with lots of drawbacks.
Need and jamesteroh like this.

I totally agree with you! Please keep it the way that it is. I don't want to get sucked into one of those crap fares!

Is it possible to get a refund of points from UR for error made by Chase UR portal?

Booked a room, clearly shows 720 sq feet on the description. When i checked in the hotel, was told the room was only 420 sq feet. I actually paid additional points for the larger room. According to the hotel, they don't have a room at 720 sq, the next one available was the luxury suite at 920 sq feet (i did see the luxury suite in UR site as well but opted for the 720 sq feet instead).

What should I do? Am i entitled to partial refund or Out of luck?

btw, i have a screenshot of what I booked (showing the 720sq information)

Most likely the typographical error (720 vs 420) was made by the property when they submitted listing details. It would be interesting to see if the same error appears on other sites, such as Expedia. In any event, you have nothing to lose by calling Connexions, explaining that you received a smaller room, and asking for a refund of the rate difference. I would call on workday (Tue-Fri) during standard business hours to maximize chances of speaking with a manager who has the authority to authorize compensation.

How can I reach customer support for Hotel questions, help with booking, or special requests?

You can call 1-866-951-6592 to speak to a Chase Travel Specialist who will be happy to assist you.

Similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I booked a HGI with an "ocean view" room on Chase. I called the HGI a few days before arrival and they showed my rez. but NOT with an "ocean view" room. I asked if they could move me to an ocean view room because that was what I booked. She said she could so problem solved.

It's ALWAYS a good idea to call a few days in advance to verify a rez. made with Chase UR. Hope you get a refund.

Am I missing something, or does Chase not display the actual ticket number anywhere either on their website or in their confirmation email? Bought a CX ticket via the Chase UR portal a few days ago, have the record locator which works on CX's website, however I can't find the ticket number anywhere. CX's website requires it to update your contact info, provide emergency contact info, etc. I messaged Chase asking them about it and they said I have to call to obtain it. I find this so obnoxiously annoying. Why wouldn't Chase be more transparent and display the actual ticket number anywhere in the reservation? So stupid.

Ultimate rewards airfare booking price went up after a refresh

I typically transfer my points to airline but this morning I saw LAX to IAH for 15k points via United which was 30k points on United website. I thought that was pretty good considering how last min it is. I had to take a call and when i refreshed the points went up to 26k.

Is there a chance the price of points will go down randomly again? If so when should I check?

This means that the last seat(s) in the lower fare bucket were sold to someone else. It is possible that UA will allocate more seats to that bucket, it's also possible that the seats you see now will be purchased, and you will see an even higher fare the next time you look.

What is Chase's policy towards hotel reservation/travel interruptions due to natural disaster? I booked using UR for my parents in Bali, but the largest volcano there is acting up - and there is an outside chance that they would not be able to fly in due to the airport being closed. In such event, is there a provision for waiver - or is it in the property's discretion? I called Chase a week ago to get the hotel's own confirmation number and Chase's agent confirmed that the OTA in the reservation is Expedia. I know ... too many parties in the supply chain, does not look really good for any kind of claim handling ... (Chase/Connexion, Expedia, then the Santrian hotel group (property)).

Do reservations made with pointn't wans stay intact if I cancel my CSR?

Am sure this has been asked but couldn't find it in the search... simple question. Have a couple of Air Canada tickets booked with points but don't want to re-up with the fee for this coming year.

Sure, same result.

Hi, Im looking for a little advice, Im sure this has been asked before but Im looking for the best way to get to Austrialia from NA. My home airport would be IAH if it matters. I have both UR and MR points available but Im curious to see which transfers would be the best option for me. Im only interested in business/first travel. I also might be interested in an open jaw, looking for something creative and good advice for a newbie. I am traveling with my wife so I will need 2 award tickets.

Any advice?

TIA

Very helpful tool right here:

(Looks like ANA using MR is the least expensive option in terms of points required.)

Note that two award tickets to Australia are generally not easy to find unless you are planning far in advance.
