Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit
How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.
For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.
But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.
Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.
Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.
Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.
What counts as Travel?
Gas Station and Grocery Store purchases will also count through 12/31/21. (See post 1521.)
The following items have been reimbursed.
Airline purchases, fees & gift cards:

So has anyone found anyway to obtain non-travel gift cards or even cash back? Example being MPX to get Amazon gift cards which I know won't work for this card. Everything I am seeing and reading is truly travel related. Which not saying isn't helpful still, I just don't have any travel coming up yet and don't want to get tied down to one specific company by buying their giftcard, i.e. AA gift card.

Day
- Day 0, Applied for the card
- Day 3, Annual fee billed
- Day 4, Card arrived via UPS
- Day 12, Statement Generated
This was back when I applied Aug/Sep
This was also when they ran out of metal cards and sent the plastic ones.
Day 0 was a weekday Monday, I want to say morning or early afternoon Eastern Time.
Hope that helps for an accurate example of a timeline.

My purchase of a Metro-North (NY MTA) round trip ticket with the MTA eTix App triggered the credit.
ALSO, got a credit for the $15 Uber GC I bought with MPX.

Sapphire Reserve travel credit: how is it counted?
I just got approved for the Sapphire Reserve card, but I am wondering how does the travel credit works. As I understand it, the clock for the $300 travel credit resets AFTER the December statement, so if I make a purchase of $300 now (before the December 2016 statement closes), and then another $300 in January 2017, should I expect that both are refunded? This seems too good to be true?

From their site:
Up to $300 in statement credits annually (“annually” means the year beginning with your account open date through the first December statement date of that same year, and each 12 billing cycles starting after your December statement date through the following December statement date).
i would call but it seems like you'll get $300 for travel charges between now and Dec 31 and then another $300 all next year for 2017.. Some analyst probably didn't think this one through :P

Yes, you get $300 before you December statement posts, and then another $300 at any point over the next 12 billing periods, repeat ad infinitum.

Then your Dec. stmt. should post abt 12/20, or so. Spend $300 on travel before 12/10 and you should be fine (Chase usually won't post spending that occurs w/in 5>10 days of stmt.) It varies but to be safe get your spend done before 12/10.

Also, any purchased made at resort/hotel restaurants do not count as travel even if the merchant name is the resort/hotel name because it is coded as DINING. Just found out today.

Military ITT purchases do not count towards travel. We bought Universal tickets through ITT using the CSR card and didn't receive travel credit. I called Chase and they said that it doesn't count as travel because of the way it was coded. I forgot exactly how they said it was coded.
