However, later the same day I also requested the credit by Secure Message (for "baggage fees) and it was approved. Very YMMV now but still doable. 2/10/2017

Southwest Airlines GCs work fairly easily. I've generally bought them for $150 and said they're excess baggage fees.

It was fun while it lasted but this was my second Ritz and the fee just hit after 2yrs @ $450. Time to cancel my favorite real metal card. With my travel patterns it's too difficult/annoying to use the $300 credit. Had some great usage over the years with the unlimited guests priority pass like brunch for 9 people. Good times.

Why does Chase make it so annoying to use the $300 credit?

Curious why Chase does this. Do they get a kickback on the allowed categories, or do they just figure that if they make it annoying enough many card users just won't use the credit and that will up their profit margin?

What makes the travel credit too difficult/annoying to use?

Gold elite requires a minimum spend still. it's low though, maybe 10k?. I've almost hit $75k for this year on the card for platinum, but since I'm not traveling for a while, don't know what the point is anymore.

I don't have the card, but when I was doing my research, I read that Gold is automatic with no min spend requirement. It's Plat that has min spend. I am sure others will correct me if I am wrong.

That was the old Ritz card before the Marriott/SPG/RC merger.

If you spend $10k, you'll be automatically upgraded to Gold (current Platinum)
If you spend $75k, you'll be upgraded to Platinum (current Titanum)
The $10k and $75k were grandfathered for 2019, but not the actual elite levels.

Then the devaluations of the card(s) and Bonv*y, round and round... And the hard landing in March 2020.

That is for 2019 only.

There is a big difference between Gold and Platinum, room upgrade, free breakfast or club lounge.

Not sure who is going to put on $75k spending on this card just to get a few free breakfast. We can't even travel.

Got it! Well, I hope I still get my $50k certificate ...to be used when we’re finally back to normal.
