As of Oct 2019, offer is as follows:

  • $200 (20K UR points) for $500 spend in first 3 months.
  • No annual fees.
  • This is the best available offer since the past few years.
  • Public Application Link

What can I do with Chase Freedom Ultimate Rewards (UR) points?

  • Transfer them to a Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, or Chase Ink Business UR points at 1:1. If you own one of those cards, this is probably the best option for you.
  • Redeem for cash back (statement credit or to a checking account), 1 cent per UR point. So, the 20K UR points for signing up will get you $200 cash back. This is generally the default option if you do not own a Sapphire or Ink card.
  • Redeem them for various gift cards, or shop with points at Amazon.com (usually same value as cash back, eg. $25 for 2500 UR).
  • Book flights/hotels/car rental/activities through Ultimate Rewards, and pay in full or in part using points (1 cent per UR).

Can I apply for this card and earn the bonus after doing so previously?

I think so, but it's up to you to decide if the AAoA and HP hit to your credit score are sufficiently offset by a 20k UR sign-up bonus and the prospect of 24k-26.5k extra UR points annually (assuming you max the 5x categories).

Yes as this is a no annual fee card that you keep forever and build more credit history. So, having a better sign on bonus now is a good time to apply.
Although have to agree with others if you can't afford the HP then not worth it for just 20k pts.

If I buy something at the convenience store attached to a gas station, will it be counted as a gas station transaction?

Depends on how the gas station codes it, usually it does though.

That's been my experience 99% of the time. Last time freedom had the 5% gas I bought a $100 car wash card at Shell and paid $75 for it. The $75 was coded gas station purchase. Used it and still have 1-2 washes left.

Freedom now available with EMV chip

I looked but didn't see this mentioned anywhere else. A friend just received a new Freedom card from Chase with the EMV chip (I assume it's still chip-and-signature). There's still the foreign transaction fee, but I thought others might be interested in knowing it's available. I knew the chip had been rolled out on the Sapphire, but the Freedom was new to me.

I wonder if that means the Visa replacement for my Freedom MasterCard will come as an EMV card?

If he didn't get a PIN separately then it's still chip and signature. At least, that's how it worked with every other EMV card with a PIN I've gotten.

I believe all the Chase cards are chip-and-sig, so I didn't even ask, and he didn't mention a PIN. Though I vaguely remember hearing something about them planning to switch to chip-and-pin in the future.

Yeah, Chase cards are all Chip + Signature. They've publicly stated that they will be rolling out chip + PIN sometime in 2014.

No other Chase cards have had PIN in the CVM for purchases, so that's likely true.

Can your friend take a pic to confirm?

With some cards, the Cash Advance PIN works as the PIN but doesn't come mailed unless specifically requested.

He's not comfortable doing so. I did a double take when I saw it because I hadn't heard anything about the Freedom getting the chip. I at first assumed it was a Sapphire with a different design, but it actually was the Freedom. I plan to request it through SM once I get back from my next trip.

Does anyone know if this offer ends today? Some of the blogs are saying so but I don't see it in the fine print.
