It’s not just an HKG issue though. For example, LHR is awful at peak times - especially end of term. This isn’t just a “crowding” issue. The LHR lounge team flat-out turn away CX’s own premium cabin passengers, so it’s an actual “access” issue. I would guess a lot of the LHR surge in demand is from SLs given the presumptive travel pattern.

I was surprised to learn CI contracts the CX lounge at LHR for its J pax and élite members. Like CX, CI's entre level élite allows unlimited lounge access, too. The CI flight also departs in the evening, when the CX lounge is busier if my understanding is correct. Maybe this is what CI demanded when CX closed the old KA lounge at KHH, as CX now needs to use the CI lounge at KHH?

Stop the contract with CI at LHR should alleviate the evening crowding problem somewhat, I suppose.

It was planned for May. Never heard of Wing turning into SL only though.

yeah its purely my own speculation of The Wing being SL only.

However, would CX be pushing for such change in HKG be feasible considering the increasing amount of SL?

btw The Bridge reopening seems to be confirmed around June? (saw someone post about this online but not too sure)

*This is purely speculative*

But if CX ever decides to open a SL-only lounge, it would definitely be the Deck. It’s somewhat far from CX checkin counters unlike the Wing. It doesn’t have an alcohol bar or coffee bar. While it’s comfortable and has the essentials (eg. Noodle bar), it cannot be matched with the Wing and Pier.

But GO and DMs can still access SL only lounges?

CI's lowest tier elites have lounge access? I had no idea!

CI's lounges are always so crowded there are times I simply use PP and use the Oriental Lounge.

They better open the Bridge soon then...

The Bridge will be reopen (assuming on schedule) in June/July 2025. There are plans to renovate Wing J in 2026. International news: JFK will get a dedicated CX lounge that will be 10,000 square feet in Terminal 6 (Cathay will move from Terminal 8 to 6) in 2026. Beijing, Hong Kong and New York will have three Flagship lounges.

The only times I felt the F lounges are crowded is doing peak holiday periods such as the weekend before Christmas.

VA also changed to a spending based program.

Hong Kong Airlines just changed to spending model effective July 1, 2025...

I really think it's just a matter of when, not if MPC will be changing...

I think HX's change is for award miles only, not for status qualifying points?
