I know you've read it before, but my thought (or rather, speculation) remains the same,
Admittance to J lounge is a significant advantage of CX SL indeed. If this privilege were to be removed, there would be little reason to prefer CX when other carriers offer more competitive rates. Of course, we are just a tiny minor fraction of CX's business. Perhaps we really are not loyal enough, but these changes would be quite disappointing.:( |
If CX's goal is to restrict access to its lounges as much as possible, I don't think they would have a co-branded credit card in HK that allows even CX GREEN members who fly ECONOMY (on CX metal) to use their J & (even) F lounges. And, yet, they do! And this program was only launched within the last few years (post Covid), not something launched a long time ago that they are looking to cancel soon.

The Standard Chartered ones. It is noticeable that the J lounges are very busy. I don't have the numbers but it definitely contributes to overcrowding. But I suppose they make too much money from whipping credit cards to stop.

It doesn't appear to be unlimited access. Just a limited number of visits. My OWE status gives me unlimited access as long as I fly OW.

The overcrowding problem is more focused on the J lounges. Anyone can issue one of the cheaper cards and get 4 visits per year.

Judging by the name of Diamond and Diamond plus, It simply makes very little sense CX will devalue diamond to OWS. It would have been called Gold plus, rather than Diamond on a 5-tier system.
For me, Diamond plus sounds like OWE-equivalent with additional written benefits, so ppl will still use their status and collect miles on MPC after passing the 1200 mark or other milestones (eg. 1800). |

Hope they don’t jack up the points requirement for DM plus. Was told someone was on 9000 points last year ! I hope the back office didn’t use his or hers flying pattern as a guideline haha

ATM only CX metal counts for DMP. The rumoured number was 500K HKD, including tax and fees. I'm sure there are more qualified folks here to comment on that. I'm just a normal person that CX is trying to evict from the F lounges.
Same boat here |
I recall someone mentioned earlier that 2 HKG-TPE round trips in J class per month could make DMP? (Sorry - couldn't find from this very long chain...)

I think Solitaire PPS is 50k SGD which is about 300k HKD so DMP is almost twice as steep.

They are crunching the numbers now, but yes, the goal is they are trying to find a way to reduce the bottom 5-10% of GO members and come up with a new system that drops them down to SL. It's two objectives: higher fare flyers will be rewarded to higher tiers more easily; lower-fare flyers will find it harder to attain premium tiers. If you are struggling to make GO now, and don't see an increase of premium flying in the future, I would start working out a plan B.

I am not a frequent flyer, but genuinely enjoy leisure travel. My family and I travel four to five times a year, primarily with CX, allowing us to reach SL.
